" What a travesty this Android announcement is. A 34-company committee that's going to oversee the development of a currently non-existent suite of open-source mobile applications to run on as-yet-unspecified hardware. I've never seen so much hot air, and honestly I'm kind of shocked that it came out of Google. A 34-company committee couldn't create a successful ham sandwich, much less a mobile application suite. 2007-11-05 20:22 Das Google-Phone ist keins
Wenn man den vielen Spekulationen über Googles Eintritt in die Welt der mobilen Kommunikation glauben geschenkt hätte, könnte die Revolution vielleicht so aussehen: Seit wenigen Minuten wissen wir aber: Es geht nicht um das Gerät, es geht um die Basis, das Operating System Android: Android is the first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices. It includes an operating system, user-interface and applications all of the software to run a mobile phone, but without the proprietary ob …

"It" being Bobby Jindal. Don't vote for "him." We already have a replicant as our president, we don't need another skin job as governor. It may not even be legal for an android to hold public office. The legislature has not addressed the possibility, which makes you wonder right there how many of them have been "got" by the pods while they were sleeping. Jindal has no human emotions or characteristics, everything it says is an implant, implanted by corporate donors and campaign consultants. Jind …

2007-10-16 00:03 Is Future Intimacy with Robots Inevitable
"My forecast is that around 2050, the state of Massachusetts will be the first jurisdiction to legalize marriages with robots," claimed artificial intelligence researcher David Levy at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. Levy recently completed his Ph.D. work on the subject of human-robot relationships. He admits that sex with robots might be a little geeky, "but once you have a story like 'I had sex with a robot, and it was great!' appear someplace like Cosmo magazine, I'd expect m …

2007-10-13 11:34 Scientist Claims Sex and Marriage with Robots this Century
In scientist David Levy's new thesis, 'Intimate Relationships with Artificial Partners,' Levy speculates that robots will become so human-like in appearance, function and personality that many people will fall in love with them, have sex with them and even marry them within the century. Life-like robot being developed in Japan. It can speak, blink, and appears to breathe, powered by an air compressor. Photo Homedad33 "It may sound a little weird, but it isn't." said Levy. "Love and sex with robo …

2007-09-05 06:10 Book Selection of the Month: Comic Books!
I stopped collecting comics about a year ago, but that medium did a great deal to shape my brain over the years - from the moral example set by characters like the late Captain America to the rhetorical example set by the narration in Flaming Carrot Comics (which described the eponymous hero as "a dreadnaught of chicanery!") - so it deserves at least a retrospective blog entry, indeed a big one. To make this as useful as possible for the reader, I have organized this list not merely as a Top Ten …

2007-09-05 00:45 Google Phone Rumored Again
The perennial rumors of a mobile phone from Google are currently in full flower with the Engadget blog claiming to have heard from reliable sources that Google's been working on a Linux mobile device OS and shopping it around to carriers and handset makers and that it could go public with the news any day now. And to think Google CEO Eric Schmidt sits on Apple's board. Supposedly the creature would emerge from wherever Google put its 2005 acquisition of Android, the mobile software company.

Book 38: Sweet Land Stories by E.L. Doctorow A quick read. This collection of 5 short stories set across America depicts characters desperate to achieve some aspect of the American Dream, such as wealth, a family, acceptance, or spiritual attainment. The story protagonists never quite get what they were hoping for. My favorite story was "Walter John Harmon," which concerned life on a religious commune. I couldn't really get into "Child, Dead, in the Rose Garden" because I didn't realize until to …

2007-09-03 13:00 Blade Runner
Blade Runner along with Alien were groundbreaking movies by Ridley Scott. Unfortunately I have to disagree with him about excising the voice over from his 1992 Directors Cut of Blade Runner. I found it less satisfying than that with the voice over, though I agree with him that the 'happy ending' in the original sucked. He has reissued it again for release this fall containing 5 DVD's. And the narration is still excised. So I will see if it really captures the Noir genre it comes from which did o …
