2007-11-06 21:16 Terror-celle: 20 arrestert over hele Europa
En terrorcelle som vervet folk til selvmordsaksjoner i Irak og Afghanistan, ble sprengt av italiensk politi tirsdag. Cellens tyngdepunkt lå i Lombardia, men hadde forgreninger over hele Europa. 20 ble arrestert. De fleste var tunisiere. Politiet sier det bekrefter at området rundt Milano og andre steder i Nord-Italia er et senter for ekstrem-islam. Aktiviteten har pågått i mange år. "Once more, the central role of Milan and Lombardy in the panorama of Islamic militants has been confirmed," the C …

Adriana Destro e Mauro Pesce Università di Bologna Continuity or discontinuity between Jesus and groups of his followers in the cultural practices of contact with the supernatural Embodiment, visions and voices The problem: Do early Christians forms of contact with the divine world derive from Jesus himself One of the fundamental problems in understanding the birth of Christianity is that of the continuity or discontinuity between Jesus and the communities of his followers after …

2007-10-20 17:12 Fluff Goes In My Fluffernutter, Not On My Blog
I love Fluff ! That ooey, gooey Marshmallow Creme that is the "key" ingredient in a "Fluffernutter". For those of you from New England, you know exactly what I mean. Take 2 slices of Wonder Bread. Spread Peanut Butter on one slice and Fluff on the other. Slap them together and "voila"...Fluffernutter! Delicious! Wash it down with a glass of ice cold milk. This masterful creation was the staple in lunch bags when I grew up in the 60's. It was the hot commodity for trading! I wonder how many …

2007-10-12 21:00 Not gonna take this sitting down
Boarshead meats does not realize what they've provoked. I'm using my connections to get a resolution through to the PCA about a boycott. Michael, you get the Baptists to boycott. Sharon, you get the Methodists. John and Josh, you get all the Lutherans on two continents. Phillip you get the Anglicans... lots of you can get the Independents... and so on and so on..... Most of these denominations are carnivorous. This is a terrible PR move by them.... I bet we can even get the Roman Catholic …

2007-10-07 00:17 Psalm 137: This is the Word of the Lord
Psalm 137 is the talk of the web. See this post by Lingamish for discussion and links. Henry Neufeld widens the net further. In this post, I affix four theses to the Wittenberg door of cyberspace concerning Psalm 137. It is my view that this psalm all of it, including its last verses is a snapshot of the pulsating heart of faith under fire and that anyone who thinks they possess a faith that has no need to embrace this psalm - all of it - has either had a life empty of Job-like suffering or has …

2007-10-01 12:30 Revisiting the Danish Cartoon Crisis
Over a year after the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published those now-infamous cartoons of Mohammad one of which portrayed the Muslim Prophet carrying a lit bomb in his turban the country is still noticeably on edge. When I recently visited Copenhagen, a week after a pre-dawn raid netted a handful of suspected Islamic extremists, the twin issues of Islam and integration were difficult to avoid. On television, the news and chat shows were dominated by discussions of coexistence with the coun …

Storytime Section "The Opening of The Box" Well, here I was just thinking of you. Sipping on my vodka tonic, thinking what would life be if I wouldn't have killed that lizard by the door. Accidents happen, even to good things. Tonight, I'm opening the box. The box full of crayons, the box full of regrets. And I swear to you, that I will make it up. For the good times, and for the worse. I'll take out the green crayon first. Take another sip of my drink. It's running out. I won't let that bother …

2007-09-18 17:50 The kind of post I write when I m feeling surly
On Saturday we attended the Great Lakes Brewfest with some good friends. And if I take anything away from the day, it is this: when the temperature is below sixty degrees, it may not be a good idea to wrap a satin table runner into a tube and wear it as a jazzy skirt with tap shoes. If you do, I ve-Seen-Dental-Tape-Wider-Than-That-Skirt Girl, it s a good idea to continue shaving up past your knees. Remember, this is Wisconsin in September. We will clearly see how far that razor jogged north befo …

2007-09-06 09:56 Walking the map in my head
Walking along the familiar streets of Norwich, my 'home town', while I'm back here visiting family for a few days, and I feel sure that I could turn a corner and be walking along a familiar street in Sydney. Or for that matter, a familiar street in Bordeaux or Delhi or Edinburgh or London or Bologna or Dublin or Kathmandu or Frankfurt or Hereford or Bristol or Paris or Berne. I don't get lonely and I never feel as though I'm far away, even when the streets I'm walking are thousands of miles from …

2007-09-04 17:02 2007 grad Brody produces NPR piece
Recent graduate student Alison Brody (M.A. broadcast journalism, '07) produced an Aug. 27 National Public Radio piece that examines Transcendental Meditation, a spiritual practice popularized in the 1960s that is showing up in elementary school classrooms. Opponents, some of whom have threatened to sue, claim the meditation is religious and violates the separation of church and state. "Some people say it's a religion, some people say it's a cult, some say it's a sect -- it is so much bologna," …

2007-08-29 02:19 Let Them Eat Bologna
102. Not a number I function well at when applied to average body temperature. I have finally managed to scavenge the remnants of my over-nuked brain through unsupervised (and in all likelihood, completely irrational and quite possibly even toxic) doses of tylenol and iburofen. At the moment, I am percolating at a slightly addled 101.1... The most clear-headed I have been all day. Might as well type a post since I most definitely do not feel like doing anything about the load of laundry that has …

2007-08-29 01:35 Grandma's Skillet
Whenever I use my grandma's old black iron skillet, like I did last night, I think about all the food she must have prepared in it. My mind goes back to the many days I spent at her house. My grandparents lived their lives in the same house where my dad and his brothers grew up. It was a tiny frame house with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and a small living room and kitchen. A creek ran beside the house and there was a well and a barn in the back. Papa was born in 1910 and was the 11th of 12 children. The …

2007-08-28 17:07 Michael Vick has no friends, except for me.
Zion, IL by A.B. Dada - Michael Vick is being villified in every mainstream and blog news and opinion piece I've found, other than a few rare pieces at the LRC it seems. He's being tossed out for being cruel to animals, and he's plead guilty on Federal charges with a chance that the state will also toss in some criminal charges, to boot. From what we can see in the media and blogosphere, Vick has no friends. I'll be the first to stand behind him and offer not just my friendship, but my defense o …

2007-08-27 19:28 Memories of Childhood
Over the weekend, I ate something I've not had in more than 20 years. I'd made meatloaf last week and we had leftovers. So, on Saturday, I cut up a few slices and had a cold meatloaf sandwich with a bit of ketchup on it. About the only difference between that sandwich and what I used to eat as a kid was that it was on wheat bread and not the "evil, sugar-death horror" of white bread. Dammit, I used to like Wonder white bread... It took me back to all the other things I used to eat when I was you …

2007-08-27 00:05 My World Is Complete...
It's amazing how good it feels to have all our chicks back in the nest. DD#2 is finally home from New York. She has been quite ill with a bad cold and still is doing a rather fine Elmer Fudd imitation. We all sat down for dinner tonight and I realized that we have only been able to do this a handful of times this whole summer. Either one or more of the kids have been off visiting family and friends or attending a camp and DH has been gone on TDYs. (temporary duty assignments for you non-military …

Your Sunday news snippets from Italy: A politician in Bologna has suggested that the city create a "red light" district where prostitution would be legal - but to have that area move around the city so no one neighborhood becomes a permanent den of iniquity. He's surprised that not everyone thinks it's a great idea, and [...]
