About This Video: Democratic Leaders Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi state their case. Smells Like Teen Spirit From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a song by the American rock band Nirvana, and the opening track and lead single from the band's 1991 breakthrough album Nevermind. 2007-10-17 04:00 Hornet volleyball sends Aggies to pasture
The Sacramento State women's volleyball team swept the University of California Davis Aggies in a 3-0, non-conference match tonight in the Hornets Nest. It was the 15 consecutive win for the Hornets who are now 21-3 overall and the victory marks 13 consecutive seasons with 20 wins or more.

2007-10-16 12:44 The Diversity of Ideas Lie at UC Davis
In the strange logic of UC Davis, Lawrence Summers' views are "appalling" and worthy of censorship, while Norman Finkelstein and Ward Churchill represent "diversity." One thing that Columbia University s recent invitation to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmajinidad made clear was that questionable intellect and moral imbecility will not immediately disqualify someone from being an honored speaker on the most prestigious American campuses. What might get you disinvited, however - as it did for forme …

2007-10-14 05:27 Digging for Gold in Texas. . .
with Tracy Garrett. A gold mine is a hole in the ground with a liar at the top." Mark Twain When I began doing research for Touch of Texas, I was searching for a special type of location. It needed to be isolated, with a means of support for those who settled in the town. I didn t want the town to be too prosperous that eliminates some of the available conflict for a story. Also, the area had to be right for the nefarious to operate cattle rustling, horse stealing, etc. and have numerous places …

I'd been meaning to post a link to this piece in 5th October's Guardian, as it summed up a lot of my feelings on the matter. While not supporting a generalised boycott of Israeli academia, I have some misgivings about such a boycott's having been declared unlawful, especially as no reasons have been given in support of such an opinion. The threats cited by Dr Gopal to academic freedom in the United States are well-known: Organisations such as Campus Watch monitor what academics write and teach, …

2007-10-12 17:20 Sonoma Day 1 - Continued
Leaving Luna, we took the Oakville Cross to get back to Sonoma. On the way Rob saw the Silver Oak Vineyard tower, and instinctively drove into another winery. There was a Sonoma connection here - Rob wanted to compare their Napa to the Sonoma Silver Oak bottlings. Fortunately, there were pouring both at the winery, saving us a trip to the Sonoma estate. The 2003 Silver Oak Alexander Valley was classic California Cab, but very dry with dusty, earthy, tannins, rather Bordeaux-esque. Nicely done, n …

2007-10-09 11:27 Celebrities Love...Herve Leger
Noted for his curve-contouring bandage dresses Herve Leger was a huge fashion hit in the 1980s. The body-con look was recently revisited by Christopher Kane and Proenza Schouler and the label is back (without the designer himself at the helm) for fall 2007 with a collection based on Herve Leger vintage pieces. Sewn entirely by hand, they are sold under the Herve Leger Couture label. Signature style : Obandage dresses are the company's trademark. His designs are based on the simple principles of …

2007-10-08 09:14 THREATS TO BUMBLEBEES FLY UNDER RADAR
Looking high and low, Robbin Thorp can no longer find a species of bumblebee that just five years ago was plentiful in northwestern California and southwestern Oregon. Thorp, an emeritus professor of entomology from the University of California at Davis, found one solitary worker last year along a remote mountain trail in the Siskiyou Mountains, but hasn't been able to locate any this year. He fears that the species -- Franklin 's bumblebee -- has gone extinct before anyone could even propose it …

Relative difficulty: Easy-Medium [updated, 10:21 a.m.] THEME: "Space Race" (32D: Event started by 38-Across) Did this puzzle quickly (circa 7 minutes) after driving home from prison late last night, so I find that this morning I can' t remember a damn thing about it. Hang on, let me refresh my memory a little... OK. There are a lot of funky little answers, which I liked. The theme ... was OK. Didn't cohere too well for me, but the answers are fairly interesting; plus, I learned how to spell GAGA …
