2007-09-17 21:47  Always More Questions
We had an appointment last week with a new doctor who happens to be both a "developmental pediatrician" and a "pediatric physiatrist", at the Center for Exceptional Families. I was happy with the appointment, because I felt like this doctor was very thorough, thoughtful, and had a lot of good ideas. The appointment lasted THREE hours. That tells you a lot, because if you have any experience with doctors, you know that you usually get to see them for less than 20 minutes where you feel rushed and …

2007-09-03 11:12  A Long, Meandering, Poorly Written Post About Poker That Ends With Me Ejaculating in a Drink
So I'm off all this week and part of next week (except for one day, oddly) from work. I have nothing to do. Nothing. Anyone remember on Married With Children when Al would go on vacation by sitting on his couch That's what I'm doing. Except for next Saturday-Sunday. I'll be taking my second plunge into the New Jersey State Poker Championship, a tournament with a moniker that begs to be mocked. Doesn't it sound like a high school event Like, instead of getting up and hitting the road at 7:30 a.m. …

2007-09-02 13:18  Two Quick Predictions For Today
I can't believe I totally forgot about this morning's Champ Car race in the Netherlands. Well, truth is...between yesterday's five football games, two baseball games, golf, and a west coast Busch race that ended after 1:00 A.M., getting up at seven to watch a Champ Car race isn't exactly dangling a carrot. Besides, I would've tanked the prediction. Someone besides Sebastien Bourdais won (congratulations to Justin Wilson, a very fine driver in his own right and a guy who'll contend for the champi …

Copyright 2006-2007 Clever Dude. All Rights Reserved. I'm going to be a little selfish today. I stopped doing roundups of my posts each week a while back because I wasn't happy with what I was producing. This month, though, I'm quite happy with many of my articles, so I wanted to highlight those posts here. August was a whirlwind of writing activity for me. I got into a groove that was so far unmatched in prior months, and I'm not sure whether I can maintain it beginning next week, as I'll be sp …

2007-08-30 00:39  As Racing Goes Green, America Lags
Sunday was a bitter day for Dario Franchitti at Infineon Raceway's Motorola 300 (He led most of the race. But on lap 69 of 80, teammate Marco Andretti ran into him out of the pit, knocking him to third place for the race and possibly out of the points championship). Still, it's been a good year for Indy racing and for the supremely powerful ethanol engines that Honda supplies. The IRL's sister series, Champ Car Racing uses methanol to power its turbocharged engines. Formula One is going green as …

This buzzkilling dude to the left [pic courtesy of AP], (who by the way, due to his face-painting color scheme, looks like he could've been plucked out of the student section at a Georgia football game), went and torched Burning Man early. Bummer. I guess now there won't be anything left to do but lay around naked in the dirt, flail awkwardly to bad music, and smoke dope. Kinda biffs up the whole itinerary, doesn't it It makes our decision not to go, which was actually made for us last year when …

How do i adjust the fuel the champ cars are using for some tracks WHat i mean is, we all start with the same amount of fuel(i guess) but they pit 2 laps before me. Are they burning more fuel, starting with less or is the track fuel burning off with the numbers WHat should i look for. 2007-08-26 18:05  Home Thoughts From Abroad
Lamborghini style police Didn't encounter too many gaudy melon-flowers, but did find... 1. The Wacky Races Driving in Italy is always a life affirming experience, especially in towns and on those twisty mountain roads. The combination of wild dodgem drivers, suicidal scooterists, and sheer naked machismo is a rejuvenating reminder that, for all our Home Counties good sense, actually we are still alive. I stay calm by pumping up the expletives, laughing hysterically, and hyperventilating. With ev …

Or things the French do so much better than anyone else. Having been tagged by Zhu who's in Canada, I have been busy thinking of ten things you can experience/see/do/eat in France that you really shouldn't miss out on. Purely from my point of view. I think there might be lots of food in this list. 1: A long French lunch. Everyone knows the French are serious about food. There must, of course, be some French people who don't care about good food and enjoying it (plenty of McDonald's here), but it …

2007-08-26 03:54  Four Quick Predictions For Tomorrow
Well, the repaved, rebanked, kinder-and-gentler Bristol was kind of a letdown tonight. The newly minted second groove made it race like a pocket-sized Atlanta Motor Speedway. Not unentertaining by any stretch, but not...I dunno...not Bristol, either. Carl Edwards stunk out the joint and won while too many Chase contenders played it conservative and were more focused on finishing than winning. Anyway, on to a full day of racing tomorrow...including a rare live Sunday afternoon show from the Ameri …
