Saregama India has installed 25 digital kiosks in Nokia stores in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, with around 30,000 tracks available for purchase, reports Business of Cinema. Saregama has content from EMI Virgin, Sony BMG, Venus, HOM Records, among others. Consumers need to connect via USB to download songs at Rs. 12 and above. Now here's the problem: not many people walk around with USB sticks in their pockets (do you), so it's likely that only people buying new handsets which come with a US …

2007-08-22 03:39  Bangalore Open Coffee Kick Starts with Bang
What do you call a meet where about 60+ people interested in entrepreneurship drop by to share ideas That's Bangalore Open Coffee Club for you all. I am speechless at the number of people and the quality (many of them are people who run their own start ups, a few VC's). When me and Vaibhav started the marketing of this event, we expected about 15-20 to be a good number to call this event a success. Now the numbers speak for themselves of the success of the inaugural meet. Read on for more detail …

2007-08-18 10:21  Freedom Jam Chennai, tomorrow, 3 pm onwards
Manoj Jacob: Just a reminder folks. Freedom Jam Chennai, a day of live music, is happening tomorrow at Buck's Theatre, YMCA Nandanam. 3 pm onwards. Land up. You'll be introduced to genres and bands you've never heard before. And a few others you'll never want to. You see the whole 7-note extravaganza is FREE, and the bands aren't paid either. So any motley crew with guitars and a drummer who can keep time are likely to take stage. From what I've seen of earlier editions in Bangalore there's boun …

2007-08-18 01:18  I am back
Hello Friends, I am back. I had a lovely time in India. Very relaxing though it was a little hectic now and then. I am slowly getting back to the routine here. 2007-08-16 08:47  Did you know
I am indebted to the Pan Macmillan internal blog, The Digitalist, for this link  to a site about the future of education. I'd recommend that you switch off the sound unless you're into meaningless electronic musical drivel but the graphics are terrific and the messages clear. I'm off to a meeting right now but will later today add a spot of nostalgia. And the nostalgia comes courtesy of Alysoun Sanders who runs the Macmillan Archive in Basingstoke. If you take the trouble to checck out the links …

2007-08-15 07:48  India Today
Yesterday Pakistan celebrated  sixty years of statehood. Today India revels  in sixty years of independence. Much will be written about the sub-continent and most of it will be much better informed than my thoughts. I've been visiting India for twenty-five years, always (apart from the occasional day or two by the beach) on publishing business. My first visit was to the Delhi offices of Oxford University Press India  in Ansari Road where they (and just down the road the editorial offices of the …

2007-08-12 18:50  Fade in and fade out
Thatz how weekend was ! It crept up on me Saturday afternoon and took to a premature closure at 4PM Sunday.  Sat morning and Sunday evening were spent in a train getting myself away from and back to Bangalore. Was visiting Chennai this weekend.. The weather there was both rain and shine. 'Shine' by Chennai standards. Rain messed my Metro Plus theatre fest plans. Ok, I'm not complaining. Not a bad trip overall.. Picked up a few books: A book by Ray on films, India after Gandhi by Ramachandra Guha …

Over here, the rule is simple. Do you consider yourself to be a …

2007-08-09 00:29  3Cs for Investment
One of my friend had a question about my article on Nepal as an off-sourcing destination. He says C limate, C onsumer spending behavior and C heap hotels can not be factors for investment decisions. While I find otherwise and I prefer to add these 3Cs to the investment attributes. First, the companies doing knowledge based work like ofsource consulting, IT services etc. need to keep happy to retain. And yes, climate plays a vital role in people remaining happy. When people are pained by a cause …
