2007-11-03 22:51  After Franco, the forgetting
By Giles Tremlett, the author of Ghosts of Spain (THE GUARDIAN, 03/11/07): They dug up yet another mass grave in Spain this week, this time near the village of Arndiga, 45 miles from Zaragoza. The bones of eight men, all trade unionists, lay where they had been hurriedly buried more than 70 years ago in the early days of the civil war. They had been shot at the same spot by supporters of General Francisco Franco. The eight were never tried. It was enough for them to be known leftwingers, members …

2007-11-01 16:09  Ding Dong Cake
I've had so many requests for the recipe for the cake that I made this week for our covered dish fellowship at church, so now I'm passing it along to all of you! I'm thinking about renaming it Chocolate Dream Cake. That just sounds so much more romantic. :) My friend Gwen originally shared this recipe with me, and I've made it countless times. I always get lots of complements on this cake, and there are never any leftovers. The picture above actually came from here. My cake turns out pretty much …

By Jason Webb MADRID, Oct 25 (Reuters) - The Catholic Church is preparing to beatify 498 of its members killed during the Spanish Civil War, putting them on the path to possible sainthood but reviving memories of a conflict that still divides Spain. Most of those to be honoured at Sunday's ceremony in Rome, the biggest mass beatification ever and to be attended by thousands of Spanish pilgrims, were priests or nuns killed by left-wing militias at the outbreak of the 1936-39 war. Many Catholic cl …

2007-10-30 18:48  Ode to My Ovens
Yesterday afternoon we kicked off our 3-night revival by hosting a preachers' fellowship meeting. I spent most of the day running back and forth to the kitchen in between school lessons and trips to town. I fixed some baked goods for the preachers' afternoon coffee break and several dishes for last night's covered dish supper. Praise the Lord for my double-ovens! They were working overtime! It was cool enough outside to be using the heat, but the ovens warmed up the house just fine. I didn't tak …

2007-10-30 11:49  Term Papers: The Official Word
Course work has been keeping me busy, and unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up with some blog conversations I would have liked to. Richard Anderson, for instance, has been blogging extensively on the Hellenists in Acts, and David Miller continues to post some great pictures and commentary from his trip to Turkey; his series on exodus and salvation in Luke-Acts has also been stimulating. I had also intended on doing a follow up on some earlier posts on the Hellenists, explaining what indi …

2007-10-29 16:29  The Imported Halloween
Halloween is almost upon us. Yes, even us who don't live in the USA. In the US, Halloween is one of the most celebrated holidays next to maybe christmas. Millions of people dress up in silly costumes, countless children wreak havoc demanding sweets from neighbors and relatives, and a fun-filled celebration of everything that is dark and scary. For some reason this "holiday" has been artificially imported into Sweden. The reason most likely being that the traditions in Sweden don't jive very well …

When my in-laws celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August, their church blessed them with the trip of a lifetime- an Alaskan cruise. They picked up gifts along the way for the kids, and they brought this lovely necklace back for me. I can't wait to wear it with a cozy sweater. With the cooler weather we've had the last few days, I'll get my chance soon. :) For more Show and Tell, visit Kelli .

2007-10-26 06:15  Prophecy by Bobby Conner
WE STAND ON THE VERGE OF THE LARGEST HEALING MOVEMENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE CHURCH! - Bobby Conner I have experienced the outstanding privilege of being in ministry meetings when suddenly the entire room would be filled with the overwhelming smell of fresh baked bread. In most of the cases when this occurred, we would experience marvellous manifestations of di- vine healing. Jesus states that healing is the children s bread (see Mark 7:27). This bread for the sick and hurt- ing is the Lord Je …

Terri Blackstock does not blog, but recently I saw a copy of an important email she sent to several friends, and asked if she would offer something similar here. To my delight, she graciously agreed. Terri is always doing something gracious. For example, although we had never met, soon after the publication of my first novel she took time out of a busy book tour schedule to have dinner with my wife and me, along with my mother who was a big fan. I will never forget the encouragement Terri offere …

2007-10-24 19:09  Mid-Week Calm
I know a lot of ladies who maintain that Sunday is the most chaotic day of the week for their family. I've been guilty of thinking that way, too. It's all a matter of perspective, though. When I plan ahead my Sundays go much smoother. Sometimes that same overwhelming feeling creeps in on Wednesday. We have our midweek church service on Wednesday night. I am the director of our Wednesday night children's program, so I have lessons and activities to prepare for each week just as I prepare for my S …

2007-10-22 22:49  A Rainy Monday
Since our Sundays are very busy, sometimes I use Monday as a day to take things a bit easier and catch my breath. We still keep to our regular school routine, but we may start an hour or two later than usual. Such was the case today. We didn't start our lessons until after 10:00, but by then I had done two loads of laundry and tidied up the house. I can concentrate on school much better if my kitchen is clean and my brain is uncluttered. We experienced another rainy day today, but the weatherman …
