2007-08-07 12:35  TechEd 2007: Day 1...
Well day1 of TechEd is coming to a close and I'm sure many delegates and others are out partying or blogging about the first day which is really a registration day and a time to meet up with everyone at the welcome reception.  I spent the day walking around checking out the venue and catching up with many people. Michael Kordahi so far wins the prize for the best t-shirt but it's early days yet.  I still love it though!! Classic!  It just says it all! Then it was time to head over to the show fl …

2007-07-11 20:36  Posts on Peace Round-up
Senator Biden's post now in the Delegates' Lounge will be the last installment of our Post on Peace series, dedicated to a discussion on conflict and its causes broadly defined. Over the last few months, we have hosted commentary by two other legislators, Congressman Donald Payne and Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey ; academics Stephen Schlesinger, John Prendergast, and Susan Rice ; UN officials like the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, the former Head of the UNFPA, and two representatives from th …

2007-07-06 01:08  Shally s view of the SHRM Annual Conference
Gerry Crispin and I walked up and down every isle, checking in on nearly 1,500 booths at this year s SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition, in search for cool new tools we could explore. We stopped at every booth that looked like it could promise something to the recruiting profession. While clearly SHRM is about much more than just Talent Acquisition, recruiting played a big role at this year s event. There were hundreds of interesting booths, so our walkthrough took a solid seven hours. A handfu …

A few things I've been reading: The American Legion was founded in 1919 by veterans who had fought in World War I, who wanted to stay in contact now that they were back on the farm. It was deeply involved in creating the Department of Veterans Affairs, for one thing. However, it also endorsed Fascism, so much so that a group of Legion members tried to organize and overthrow the US government what was called the Business Plot. ( More links on it here than you probably want to read. Apparently, th …

2007-06-05 07:08  Bigger is Better: 7 Insane Soviet Projects.
The Soviet Union decided the best way to show up the West was through building the biggest version of any given object. The following are just seven of the largest examples. 1. Magnitogorsk In Magnitogorsk, fishermen often sell their catch from the polluted Ural River to market rather than consume it themselves (Image Credit: Gerd Ludwig Photography ) Whether it was for guns, tanks, ships, railroads, or bridges, Stalin, whose name means "Man of Steel," knew he needed one thing above all else for …

Key concepts: World Economic Forum, Peter Schwartz, Monitor Group, futurists, Corporate Green, climate policy, EDGE.org, various Davos celebrities Attention Conservation Notice: You're basically at this guy's elbow as he goes to Davos to network with the Great and the Good. There's a great deal of discussion there about the climate crisis and what to do about carbon. Davos is the watering hole of the global plutocracy, so if you're interested in the tides and currents of planetary development, y …

Title: Hostage Situation Author: Jessi B. Email: shadowrider@blomand.net Fandom: Doctor Who Rating: PG-13, Pre-Slash Pairing: Doctor/Mickey Summary: Sequel to 'Mickey'. The Doctor takes Mickey to a space race. Things don't go as planned. Notes: Yes it's different, but so's the companion. If the muse keeps biting though I'll revisit 'The End of the World'.
