No more captchas... wooo. Disqus is a perfect example of an opportunity to do exploit something small to a bigger player, like commenting, do it cross-platform, and create a lot more value to users than any one platform could do on their own. Now if there was some way to combine it with MyBlogLog, that would be something... a suite of social tools around surfing and commenting with a single identify and tracking of participation. For some reason, I could never get a link to my typepad comments into my feed. One of the reasons I moved to disqus is that they told me they could do it easily. And they did. Jackson, who is the most frequent commenter here at avc, doesn't like the new comment system and feels that as the most frequent user of it, his opinions should matter. They do. He doesn't like the fact that he's not remembered from past commenting and he hates the fields where you enter name, email, and web address. His words to me were direct. Fix it or dump it. CoComment had a good amount of time to get out ahead, but now the new blog comment startups are coming out in force. CoComment, you'll remember, allowed users to track their comments across multiple sites and blogs via a bookmarklet, and (later) blog plugins. A new (and IMHO far superior) threaded commenting system is emerging. First sighting seems to be at Mr. Wilson's A VC blog. So far I'm liking it. A lot! Mr. Wilson's firm appears to have invested in Disqus. One nice thing about him and the companies he invests in... he's quite objective about using them and being open to feedback. Have a looksee.

Two startup companies are looking to improve blog comments. Check out Fed Wilson's new comment system from Disqus and TechStars' new comment system from Intense Debate. Both systems offer threading and the opportunity for comment ranking, but Intense Debate's systems seems more feature rich. David Cohen at TechStars gushes: " Intense Debate solves a major problems with blog comments - namely that they just suck."
