2007-10-23 20:17 Nasjonalistisk stemning griper Tyrkia

2007-10-18 01:56 Oldest Embracing Lovers Found in Turkey
Two ancient skeletons found in each other's arms in a grave in Turkey might be the oldest known embracing couple, archaeologists say. The remains, believed to be those of a 30-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were found last week in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir. The team carrying out the excavations found the remains under the floor of an ancient house at the Hakemi Use excavation site in Turkey's Bismil district. The researchers dated the skeletons to 6100 B.C., said tea …

2007-10-11 22:26 Irakkriget utvidgas, Representanthusets utrikesutskott retar Turkarna

2007-07-21 00:00 Even Kurds plan to vote for governing party
Like most Kurds here in southeastern Turkey, Abdurrahman Oguz has never had an easy time with the Turkish government. First they ousted his schoolteacher - who had tried to teach the outlawed Kurdish language - and forced Mr. Oguz to learn only Turkish. Then they forced him to adopt a Turkish name. Then they eliminated his family's village, forcing him to move to the teeming refugee city of Diyarbakir.

2007-07-16 07:45 Women's Issue - Turkey Brothels Produce 2 Election Candidates
ISTANBUL, Turkey -Raped by her uncle when she was 9 and sold into prostitution by a man who had promised to marry her, Ayse Tukrukcu remembers her first day at a state-controlled brothel in the southern Turkish city of Mersin like it was yesterday. "There was a song--'Is This Justice, World' by Hakki Bulut--playing in the shop opposite the big metal gate and a line of men waiting," she says. "I asked the policeman at the door where I was, but he just laughed and pushed me in. My world collapsed. …

2007-07-13 18:57 Turkish Military Surging to Iraq Border
At first glance, Turkey wouldn't seem like the type of place that would be a flashpoint for the middle east - but it is. In the map to the left, it's pretty clear that Turkey has an overriding interest in border control between itself and Iraq. The border area isn't a particularly huge piece of real estate, but it's been the location of many clashes between Turkish troops and Iraq Kurdistan militias. Today, Reuters is reporting that Turkey has massed nearly 200,000 troops along the border. Think …

2007-03-22 09:50 Here I Sat
Here I Sat (or squatted) Pictures of hotel rooms often show the luxurious bed, the stylish furniture or the stunning view out the window. Or alternatively the lumpy bed, the crumbling furniture and a close up view of an adjacent wall. Either way that important secondary room with its throne (or hole in the floor) doesn t get photographed so often. So here are 12 interesting places I ve sat (or squatted) in the last 12 months. Starting with the facilities in the Buff Room at Crom Castle in Northe …
