2007-11-06 12:50 Blue Plate Special
It was another one of those Uni Watch red-alert moments last night, as about a dozen readers e-mailed me all at once and another half-dozen or so posted all at once in the comments section. The cause Jason Strudwick of the Rangers got in a fight and his nameplate came loose during the fisticuffs, revealing some nasty-looking adhesive residue on the underside. All of which is very entertaining. But here's my question: Since when have the Rangers been using nameplates I always thought they used di …

2007-10-07 17:00 Darryl Hunt: Worcester Sharks Chomp Springfield 4-2 In Season Opener
In a day where New England weather felt more appropriate for baseball than hockey, the Worcester Sharks opened their regular season with a 4-2 road win over the Springfield Falcons. The Springfield crowd, announced at 4,550, was still loudly celebrating the first home game under their new affiliation with the Edmonton Oilers when center Ben Simon deflected a hard wrist shot by T.J. Kemp past Sharks goaltender Thomas Greiss, to take a 1-0 advantage just 2:11 into the game. That lead would be shor …

2007-08-26 23:40 BDS and Bill Moyers
Bill Moyers, who has spread his left-wing ideology for decades courtesy of your contributions to the Public Broadcasting System, is a hateful, despicable little man. And I may be putting it much too nicely. A little over a week ago, in the wake of the announcement of the resignation of presidential adviser Karl Rove, Moyers let the hate flow as he accused Rove of being an agnostic who suckered the religious right into supporting President George W. Bush. You can watch it - I did - but I really d …

2007-08-18 02:45 HF's Top 20 Prospects, Summer 2002
This is Jesse Niinimaki, who looks skinny (and is it just me, or are there maybe one or two many logo's on the uniform) and should have had one or two more hesburger's before this game. In the summer of 2002, Hockey's Future issued their top 20 Oilers prospects. They had room for Niinimaki, but not for Fernando Pisani, and it's a lesson we can probably all learn for this upcoming season: the first round picks (Schremp, as an example) have to prove their worth just as much as some 8th rounder the …

2007-08-16 23:20 Penner's Outer Marker
This is an interesting photo. The NYI player on the far right I believe is Jude Drouin (but stand to be corrected) and that's Denis Potvin in his classic hunched over skating style. Clearly the Islanders are behind late in a game against the Seals (NOTE: Not so, as Marc pointed out in the comments. The empty net might just be that the Islanders have the puck on a delayed penalty call. But let's assume for the sake of discussion my original premise to be correct). On top of that, I believe that's …

2007-07-31 17:47 And so it Ends - - or Does it
Yesterday I got on BART after driving notdefined s car to the BART station in Pleasant Hill and headed to the 19th street exit to meet Tommy. He rode with me to the 12th street exit and we went to Star Bucks for a coffee and then we returned to the BART where he went back to work and I caught the Fremont Train to catch the Air Bart Bus to get to Oakland Airport to get my butt back to KC. (BTW I forgot and Tommy forgot to remind me to give him his extra set of car keys and house key but all is we …

2007-07-26 05:24 One Day Closer to Home
And the week keeps on keeping on. My body is finally starting to adjust to the time here in SF. I am now only 2 hours from Kansas City time while I was living 15 time zones away and for a few nights here in SF at bed time my body was still trying to tell me that it was about 1 PM in the afternoon but last night I got a pretty good night of rest. I got up early this morning and chatted with notdefined and mh58 before they headed off to work. (BTW that means I am getting up about 5 AM) Today howev …

2007-07-22 23:14 Back In USA
Well made it back from Brisbane on Schedule and Graham picked me up at the airport as planed. We ran some errands and then went out to dinner after which we stopped off at the Laird Hotel for a few drinks before heading to the dance party. I had a change of clothing in his car ready for a quick change into my party duds. (My Jeans and Leather Chaps and New Wrist bands that Graham had made for me. I changed at the bar and then we headed to the Venue where the dance party was taking place. We arri …

2007-07-17 14:56 Back in Queensland Once Again
I did a bit of shopping in Melbourne on my last full day in the city at Central Mall. The tower in the center of the Mall was actually one of the old original buildings that sat on its present site and they preserved the old building constructing a protective glass dome over the tower. Click on Image to Enlarge I stopped off at the Laird for a beer to say farewell to one of the bartenders that will not be there on Saturday evening when Graham and myself return for a drink before going to the all …

Tomorrow is judgement day for Kevin Lowe and the Oilers Just some thoughts on hockey before tomorrow's big free-agent explosion. 2007-02-06 00:22 Menu ala Drouin
Well tomorrow night I've decided that I am going to cook. Today Jonathan and I went out and did the whole grocery shopping for the household (something I love doing for some odd reason) and we bought the meals for the next few nights, excluding one night for take out and one night for left overs and I was going to cook Hotdogs with pork sausages instead of hotdogs and fry up some potato wedges and finish it with some jello and ice-cream. But we got home too late for me to get the jello prepared …
