2007-10-17 11:01 Pyxis GPS watch
The market for GPS watches is relatively small with only a few brand names such as Garmin, Suunto, Casio, and then a few less known Asian names. Today we have Pyxis again, and apparently they have upgraded the software on their GPS wrist watch to support activities other than just golf. Pyxis now offers features to help you keep track of your workout whether you're cycling, running, hiking, or just walking. We have no info when this GPS watch will be available in the U.S. or anywhere else but it …

2007-10-17 10:24 glofiish X600
ETen just keeps coming out with new glofiish. Right after X800 and M800, both of which we talked about here at Navigadget the Eten brand now presents glofiish X600. Compared to both other PDA phones in the same range this has a slightly different design and it is a little thinner (1.5 cm instead of 1.6 cm), lighter (136g instead of 147g) and especially smaller (10.75.8 cm instead of 11.46 cm). However all this comes with a price for glofiish X600 will be an entry level device which lacks 3G an …

2007-10-14 17:13 GPS Leader Garmin May Be Headed In Cell Phone Direction
Nokia raised eyebrows this month when it announced a big acquisition that encroaches on Garmin's navigation device business. But Garmin, the leader in navigation, or GPS, devices, might respond in kind. It's said to be mulling a move into the cell phone business.

2007-10-13 15:14 Have you picked your Halloween Costume
Well, because it's Saturday I'm doing another 'random post'. As you recall in my last random posts about Europe, Hockey and cellphones or about how I bought a Garmin Edge 205 from ebay I basically just talk about whatever I feel like. Anyway, because it's October 13th and we only have 18 days till Halloween [...]

2007-10-11 15:34 Ennerdale wildcamp post-trip kit report
OK, let's start with the tent. I took the Vango Spectre for it's first wildie and it performed well, but then again conditions were good so it wasn't tested to the max. It was easy to put up, it took about 5 minutes, which I think is acceptable. In the morning there was a small amount of condensation on the underside of the fly, it would have been much less if there had been any sort of a breeze flowing through the end-vents, but there wasn't. I still need to replace the original guy-lines with …

2007-10-11 11:27 RM-A4000 from XRoad gives riders a new option
The market for GPS navigation systems designed for riders is quite limited. The best ones out there are the Garmin Zumo and the TomTom Rider. Today we present a new brand - XRoad - entering the arena with their new model RM-A4000. There's nothing too special about the circuitry or the software inside the RM-A4000; you get your usual 3.5″ screen, 64MB memory, SD card slot, and support for multimedia files. The difference is in the exterior design, such as the visor-like cover to minimize th …

2007-10-01 14:04 Nokia Finds The Shortest Route To Navigation Info: Buys Navteq For $8 Billion
Nokia made a bit of a splash this morning by announcing plans to buy digital mapping/navigation firm Navteq for $8.1 billion. Navteq is definitely the leading player in the space, followed by TeleAtlas -- and the two companies basically dominate the market. Earlier this year, you may recall, navigation device maker TomTom announced plans to buy TeleAtlas, though that deal is not yet completed. Many people are speculating on what this could mean for Garmin, TomTom's main rival in the navigation d …

2007-09-27 15:15 ring-a-ling-a-ling... hello
I have a confession to make. I'm not quite replying to a tag which was passed on to me by Doreen, but I'm actually taking the opportunity to ask all of you on which phone I should move on to! Ahhh, kill a few birds with one ciku. Might as well, eh First, a little history and crawl down memory lane. It had always been, and still is (so far), Nokia for me. Despite failing very badly in the eye-candy department these days, it still has the best and most user-friendly menu I've ever come across. Eve …

2007-09-19 16:45 79 and 80
I can barely run 3 miles. This week has been the toughest yet. Which I probably say ever week. But this week is. Definitely! It is a struggle to start, do it, keep going. I have lost that, "I can do it!" It's been replaced with "Who gives a shit" On a positive note, I am fantastic at finishing! I have mastered coming to a skreatching halt as soon as my garmin clicks over to 3.00 miles. I have, like last night be known to run up and down the parking lot outside my building for .14 miles, just to …

2007-09-17 00:36 Philadelphia Distance Run
This is my post race report. I completed the 13.1 miles of the Philadelphia Distance Run. My pace was about 12:40, for a 2 hour 45 minute total time. When you consider that I finished the Broad Street Run in 2 hours and 26 minutes for 10 miles this is good, damn good. I have to say that I am quite happy with the result. Based on my performance in May in the Broad Street Run (I did about a 14:30 pace over the 10 miles) I had wanted to do about a 13:30 pace for the race. But I started out pretty w …

Vegas is a couple days away now and I am gearing up for what looks to be a great conference - Shop.org Annual Summit 2007. This is the first time I am speaking at a Shop.org event and the session will hopefully have some great audience input. We are doing something a bit out of the norm for a retail event and not using PowerPoint *gasp*. Instead, we will be presenting in a blog format and live surfing. Since the topic is social media, we figured what better way to demonstrate the topic, than to …

2007-09-02 23:57 Race Report - SARRC Time Trial 10km
I have been out for three 6k runs since the marathon. I pulled up from it surprisingly well...which only makes me feel like I didn't give it my all. Regardless, this morning I went for a run with Rachel49 and Stu, who stayed the night down from Mildura. Just 6k down Dry Creek West. After fitting Stu out with my oldest pair of Beasts and some rather baggy long shorts, he set the pace as we meandered down dry creek in the chilly morning air. The pace was maybe 10-15sec per kilometer slower th …

Scuba afficinados, here's some good news for you. Jules Jurgensen announced its $299.95 Uncrushable watch. The watch is reported to withstand up to 3,000 feet of pressure and would definitely be the timepiece for the active sportsman. The watch utilizes washers and O-ring gaskets between the case and back for the tightest seal available. The 4 mm faceplate is twice as thick as those found on other watches and is constructed from the hardest mineral crystal available. Even the case back is twice …

2007-09-02 04:55 Anyone for a GPS
Before we went on our mammoth road trip we decided we wanted a GPS device, both as an added precaution against getting lost and as a neat little tracker of where we'd been. We did some internet research and some in-the-shop research, and ended up buying a Garmin GPSMap 60csx two days before we left. Just in case anyone else has any considerations of buying such a thing, here's the thought processes that went into the choice and a review of the now thoroughly-tested thing itself. There are effect …

2007-09-01 20:11 Holy crap... I ran 20 miles this morning!
Well, I feel like I cleared a physical and mental hurtle in my Chicago Marathon training. I ran 20 freakin' miles... in the pouring rain. Luckily, I had 3 running partners (one of them is my boss too) who kept the time rolling with funny stories, debates, and the Kevin Bacon game. Geez it feels good to accomplish this. I have to agree with Jess about how it feels good to reach this point and just soak it all in. It finally is hitting home that I am really running the marathon in 5 weeks and that …
