2007-08-31 16:12  I Got Duped By Gibbs!
Watch the author literally have the worst time of his life. Can you even see me in this picture This must be Gibbs Cadiz and Karla Maquiling's idea (of Pinoy Centric ) of a joke. What started out as an invitation for one lazy afternoon at the theater rapidly evolved into an impromptu mini-workshop that nobody anticipated. Gibbs' press release was that the handful of people who signed up for the event would be treated to a tour of PETA's theater at New Manila prior to watching a matinee of Batang …

2007-08-25 23:56  A Month of Blog Scandals and Wars
August, I think, is fast becoming the month of "blog scandals and wars", with the ongoing commotion in the blogosphere superseding the waves made by the Philippine Blog Awards and the issue of invocation during secular gatherings. So, what are the issues (For those who're already familiar with the sizzling hot issues in the blogosphere nowadays, please skip the boring paragraphs that will follow. I'm recounting the issues for the sake of those who are M.I.A. or missing in action and for my frien …

A post published a little late. But it will never be too late for a lot of link loves and a bit of a story. The Top 10 Emerging Influential Blog Announcement was made over dinner at Max's restaurant, Park Square, Makati last August 1. Actually I had second thoughts about coming because I wasn't in the mood to be sociable and also, I thought I have clinic early morning the next day in Bulacan. That would mean I can't stay up too late and that I have to go home to Bulacan during the night, which c …

2007-08-25 15:43  All the world's a PETA stage...
My first taste of theater was in my freshman year at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas. I saw a play by resident UPV theater group, Teatro Amakan, which I think was entitled "Baloy" or something like it. I enjoyed it immensely, even though it was dialoged in pure Hiligaynon. No matter, I enjoyed it and the storyline and humor hit all the right notes. I had a blast and was raving about it for weeks. I never thought a PETA production would be as enlightening as they said it would be …

Tingog is calling for the dismissal of Malu Fernandez from Manila Standard Today and People Asia magazine. Some of the commenters have even suggested the boycott of both publications as well as Fernandez' Luscious boutique. John Marzan doesn't think its a good idea. He says it lets her "off the hook too easily." He agrees with Paolo Mendoza, who says there's an elitist in all of us. Mendoza writes: But what does separate her from us Are we not guilty of some form of political incorrectness again …

I'm better read than heard. But still, nowadays, better heard than seen. Plus I never really overcame a bad case of public speaking jitters, despite my age, despite mind-over-matter mantras, despite numerous lecturing assignments where I work. So when Noemi Dado texted me I was among three bloggers Lifestyle Channel wanted to interview for a feature on blogging moms, I hemmed and hawed. But wait, I self-talked, giving myself more credit than I would normally claim: "You're now Annamanila, aren't …

My friend Jayvee Fernandez seems to be in a bit of maelstorm recently. For all of those in the know this might be old news but it all started out with this post and subsequently lead to this post. And so far both posts have been getting several comments so much so that the first one has already reached the top five posts on Jayvee's blog. And it has also prompted a response from Gibbs Cadiz. I still have to see what Janette Toral's take on this is but I am eagerly awaiting for it. The advantage …

Ok, this was stolen from Jon 's blog. This comment made by Toni (who unfortunately failed to leave a URL) just hits the spot, I think.   You know the saying: There are no tyrants where there are no slaves. You have a blog. You have the power. Let the œpowers that be cringe as they slowly realize their relentlessly fading influence in the blogosphere. They might be the œparents of Pinoy blogging, but that was just a fortunate function of being someplace at some early point in time. But just a …

When I began blogging seven months ago, I didn't bargain for a lot of things. I didn't dream I'd get hooked; that there'd be (very) little else I'd rather do. I didn't reckon I'd belong to a cool kewl community of bloggers, eyeball to the max, win "thinking," rocking," "schmoozing" blogger's badges, co-edit a Pinoy mom's electronic magazine, be featured in a newspaper, get interviewed on television. And I most certainly didn't count on making a quick buck. All I wanted was to help my favorite ne …

Three months ago, fellow blogger Janette Toral came up with a brilliant way to bring out the new joiners of the blogosphere. Her aim was to acknowledge blogs that, although new, are already creating quite a stir among bloggers and readers. The project invited everyone to write about blogs that they feel falls under the classification of "Emerging and Influential". One would probably instantly think about... Yuga! but the criteria clearly defined that blog entries should be - blogs that only star …

In my book, to be influential means, at a minimum, being able to offer a fresh take on old stuff AND getting people to appreciate the innovation. When somebody makes you see things in a new light, or creates a niche where none has existed before, or blazes a trail that has others enthusiastically following in his or her wake, that's being influential. - Gibbs Cadiz, oldest Filipino blogger Everything said and done, I believe that the project is a failure due to the nuances of definining 'influen …
