2007-11-06 08:00 Video: The Buddyrevelles: "The Foreigner"
Stroll down any tree-lined street in the suburbs on a sunny Saturday afternoon, and you'll see dads washing their cars --or indie rock bands-- in the driveway. This clip from Chicago indie-pop trio the Buddyrevelles should have been used for Outkast's "So "Fresh So Clean." It certainly would have given a new meaning to the phrase Dirty South. Directed by Found Footage Festival's Joe Picket, the members of the Buddyrevelles (guitarist Aaron Grant, bassist Scott Hoch, and drummer Dan Reinholdt) st …

2007-10-22 22:45 COHA Report. The Organization of American States: On its Deathbed
To Our Readers Unfortunately, an older and unedited version of the COHA piece entitled œThe OAS: On its Deathbed was inadvertently sent out to a very small cohort of COHA readers on October 17 before an error was discovered and the press run was immediately aborted. Due to a computer editing error, the author, Sean Bartlett did not catch that two different facts were spliced into one sentence. Jose Miguel Insulza, as a young man in his late twenties, was a political director in the Chilean For …

2007-10-21 08:54 The Ones that Got Away (Referrals for Listings); Asking Better Questions Next Time!
Referrals from other agents or from past clients and friends often makes up the lion's share of my business. If you have been in real estate awhile, that's probably true for you, too. Usually I have a pretty good success rate with getting signed listings if I get in front of sellers - especially when they come to me as referrals. Recently, though, I had two referrals that didn't pan out and they had similar circumstances. So I wanted to chat about that today. Perhaps my situation will help som …

2007-10-20 19:04 Aufrichtiger Dank an unsere Väter und Mütter
[...] I just want to thank the baby boomers for totally and completely fucking over what could have been the greatest country ever. The whole time I was growing up no one ever said anything about oil. No one ever said anything about foreign manufacturing. No one ever said anything about non-linear population growth. No one ever said anything about Topsoil. No one ever said anything about illegal aliens. No one ever said anything about preparation for anything that might come our way. No, the sad …

Optional Memorial of St. Hedwig, religious; St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, virgin Old Calendar: St. Hedwig, widow; St. Gerard Majella (RM) From: Luke 11:37-41 The Hypocrisy of the Scribes and Pharisees [37] While He (Jesus) was speaking, a Pharisee asked Him to dine with Him; so He went in and sat at table. [38] The Pharisee was astonished to see that He did not first wash before dinner. [39] And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you …

2007-10-16 02:29 Why Would I Want to Stay Home Part 2
As Part 1 explained, being a keeper at home does involve some plain, ordinary work, just like any other job does. And viewing that working through the light of the Christian duty, we find a wealth of opportunities to serve our families. But that is only a part of what being a keeper at home is...there is so much more, although the "so much more" has been lost! The picture of staying home is so marred by feminists influences, that most women truly don't understand the plethora of activities, oppo …

2007-10-15 16:20 Moroni's Pitch
By Guest Blogger Juggler Vain The LDS Church, like any organization that asks people to do things they wouldn't normally do on their own, employs a variety of persuasive techniques. What follows is an examination of three of the LDS Church's techniques: (1) Moroni's Promise, found in Moroni 10:4 ; (2) Alma the Younger's Sermon on the Seed, from Alma 32 ; and (3) Boyd K. Packer's Testimony Experiment, from " The Candle of the Lord ," a 1982 address to mission presidents, published on page 51 of t …

2007-10-15 15:42 Pitching Frugality To Friends
In some regards I've become a bit of cliche of myself when it comes to my friends. Not only do most of friends know what my personal spending habits because they know me, they also read this blog. I think some of my friends think of me as the resident frugalskate - not cheapskate as I like to think I'm not cheap (though I could be wrong). I'd be happy with this label if it were more true. There are still many places I'm quite wasteful. Regardless, letting my friends know what mine financial valu …

Leave it to our wonderful, awesome, veteran friends of Gathering of Eagles to turn the tables on the idiots of Code Pink. For those who do not know who Code Pink is, they are the Military hating, vandalizing members of a group that dress in pink, deface Marine recruitment offices, park their pinkly clad carcasses outside Nancy Pelosi's house just to have the police move them so they are now parked outside of a neighbor of Nancy Pelosi's house as well as having to be publicly removed from chamber …

2007-10-14 17:43 Och Reagan sade....
A baby is an alimentary canal with a loud voice at one end and no responsibility at the other. Ronald Reagan A people free to choose will always choose peace. Ronald Reagan A tree's a tree. How many more do you need to look at Ronald Reagan Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have. Ronald Reagan All great change in America …

2007-10-14 14:51 procrastination is hard work
(Or...I'm finally getting around to writing about NJRW ) Aren't you excited A full week. That's pretty good, don't you think A full week to get around to posting about the NJRW conference last weekend, when I probably should have done it as soon as I got home. But if it's any consolation, I'm also just now getting around to unpacking. That's right, I am the Queen of Procrastination. My motto is: Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow. (Do not try this at home, boys & girls, you haven't …

2007-10-12 14:57 Illegal Aliens Take $118 Flights To US Border
From Arizona's AZ Central : Migrants filling Mexican flights Airlines cashing in on U.S.-bound crossers Chris Hawley Oct. 12, 2007 MEXICALI, Mexico - Among travelers, it's jokingly known as Aeromigrante - Migrant Air. New discount airlines in Mexico are doing a brisk business shuttling migrants to the U.S. border, turning what was once a days-long trek into an easy hop for legions of workers, both legal and illegal. "It's much more comfortable than the bus and about the same price," said Leopol …

2007-10-12 02:22 Older Women at Home
A request has been received, to explain the reason for older women to be guards and guides of the home, even without children to care for. It is sad that such a subject is even necessary to discuss, because for generations, women, whether they were single or childless, married or widowed, were protected from the pressures of earning a living, and the fathers, husbands, brothers and sons, proudly took their responsibility to be good providers and protectors of the family. Women were allowed to st …

2007-10-10 22:21 I'll take Pansies and pumpkins, thank you.
There isn t a whole heck of a lot to talk about lately except that Tuesday evening brought a trace of rain! Few drops of rain didn t benefit us much since our 93 degrees yesterday broke a record of 91 back in 1939. A nearby town called Albemarle, home of Kelly Pickler, American Idol country star, had 97 yesterday. Lake Norman is twelve feet below normal and boats are in dry dock. The forecast looks dry for a while but the temperatures will drop in a few days, so I say bring out the pansies and p …

2007-10-10 21:23 New Tote for little old meme, and a tiny teapot
The date stamp is wrong on this thing. Maybe because it was a draft saved on the tenth.... Anyway, I will now try to attach a piccie of the tiny teapot. It's just a little commonware teapot but it's thrown on a wheel and has a handmade spout. I love it. Today we are going to a funeral. Military Honors for a WWII vet. It's going to be beautiful and emotional. He was a very good neighbor and human being.

2007-10-10 07:16 day job
The trauma of a full-time writer having a day job isn't the hours you have to spend there. It's the fact that the hours are REGULATED. It's 2 a.m., I'm on a writing roll, and.. . and.. . I have to be up at 7:30. There was a brief and shining time (which I foolishly squandered) when I had no day job and could write full time. The good thing about the lack of a day job is that if you want to marathon your writing when it's going well, you do it! Ten hours, twelve hours, longer, until you're drooli …
