2007-10-21 17:27 Naming Names at Gitmo
Well into the night of Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, lt. Cmdr. Matthew Diaz sat alone at his desk in the headquarters of the American detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, consumed with a new project. He often worked late. From the time Diaz enlisted in the Army as a 17-year-old high-school dropout, hard work had been his ticket. He had earned his college degree while serving as an artillery sergeant and then completed law school a semester early, driving a mail truck on the weekends. In 10 years as …

2007-09-28 10:46 TIP OF THE WEEK: Hanging Out in the Trailer Park
Greetings, Moguls, and welcome to the latest Tip of the Week. Choosing the movies that comprise your slate is, as we all know, no easy task. Critics' reviews, performance during release in another country or at a film festival, and columns outlining industry tracking data all helpful in shaping your picks. Arguably, however, one of the best litmus tests to determine whether a film belongs on your slate is to watch its trailer (also called a "preview," or sometimes a "coming attraction") and deci …

One of the most experimental bands ever is making new waves with a new album titled La Cucaracha. The brothers Ween are back with their first album in four years and an extensive Fall tour. La Cucaracha will be the debut release on a new label: Rounder Records, and the tentative release date is scheduled for October 23rd. 2007-08-27 19:01 Nada Surf back in the studio, on tour in the fall
New York pop-trio Nada Surf, memorable to most for their '90s alt-rock hit "Popular," but more beloved by me for their dark and beautiful latter-day masterpiece Let Go, are currently back in the studio working on a new album and gearing up for a fall tour. I tried to find out more detailed information, but the only thing I could dig up was this, from all-knowing Wikipedia: After touring for one year after the release of The Weight Is a Gift, the band went back to the studio in March 2007, in Sea …

There is no "D" in "All-Star Game," and there certainly wasn't any in Friday night's 2nd Annual Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic at Rucker Park in Harlem. The two squads -- named after Rucker legends Earl "The Goat" Manigault and Rafer "Skip to My Lou" Alston -- combined for 333 points while playing in front of ESPN cameras and a capacity crowd that included New York street legends Dwayne "The Pearl" Washington and Walter Berry. For those who missed the highlight-reel game, it will be shown o …

Wisconsin Badgers 12-1, blowing through the entire schedule, winning the Capital One Bowl against Arkansas. Not a bad season at all and now, folks in Madison know what would be considered an encore. With most everybody back, is Wisconsin ready to take the Big 10 by storm and play in the BCS Maybe the title game THE OFFENSE: Tyler Donovan was recently named the starter over Allen Evridge. The Kansas State transfer lost out on the guy who filled in at times for Stocco, but neither were all that im …

2007-08-22 23:11 2-a-Days: Western Kentucky and Western Michigan
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers I must say I don't know anything about this team; I'm researching as I go. So this will pretty much be worth less than my other previews (which are about a grain of salt to begin with). WKU will begin competing in the Sun Belt beginning in 2009, but they will spend the next 2 seasons as a transitioning team. THE OFFENSE: David Wolke will probably be the starting QB. Justin Haddix is gone who was a very reliable QB. The RB duo is solid with Andrew McCloud (pictured) a …

2007-08-15 04:36 07-08 OSU Basketball Schedule- Finally
By Adam Kiefaber I was being to wonder when the Big Ten was going to figure out the schedule for the 2007-2008 season. Finally it is here, however it isn't complete and times are not official. Three games stand out in the non-conference schedule. Those games are vs. North Carolina (Nov. 18th), vs. Florida (Dec. 22) and at Tennessee (Jan. 19). Fans should remember when the Buckeyes played UNC at Chapel Hill last November. It was the first real opponent the Buckeyes had to play. OSU lost 98-89 in …

2007-08-13 22:18 College Football 2007 Conference Preview: Big Ten
The Big Ten has been very competitive in the BCS race and always produces some of the top tier teams in the country. Look for Wisconsin and Michigan to be the ones competing for a chance to play in the BCS National Championship game, with Ohio St., Penn St., Purdue, and Iowa not far behind. Predicted Order of Finish 1. Wisconsin The offense should be solid even after losing QB John Stocco and T Joe Thomas. Tyler Donovan is battling with KSU transfer Allan Evridge for the starting QB job but Dono …

Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, 22, Granger, Indiana. LOS ANGELES A general dropped all charges Thursday against a Marine who had been accused of killing three Iraqi brothers in response to a roadside bomb attack in Haditha in 2005. "The evidence does not support a referral to a court-martial," Lt. Gen. James Mattis wrote in his written decision. Lance Cpl. Justin L.
