2007-10-16 02:31 Walking in Memphis snippet
All I have to cheer up a sick friend. œCome on Chris we ll be too late. Buck urged his still jet-lagged lover out of their hotel room. œBuck! This is supposed to be a vacation. Please tell me we re not running ourselves ragged trying to catch some lame tourist thing Chris griped as Buck practically propelled him into the elevator. œI thought you wanted to see Graceland Now Buck sounded wounded. œI do. I do. Chris amended his complaint. œI just don t see why we can t go after we get some …

2007-10-01 18:17 Letter to my Kids, part 4
In this installment I continue discussion of Mormon issues with the Book of Abraham and Joseph Smith. The Book of Abraham The Book of Abraham is another of the books of the LDS canon that has an interesting origin and has been the subject of considerable controversy, at least within circles of the "intellectual" and critical Mormon community. Many members of the church are not aware of its origin or why there would even be issues concerning its provenance (proof-of-origin). As stated in the intr …

2007-09-19 19:56 Laughs from Zenoferox
The following is a post on a blog by someone named Zenoferox. He is an atheist who tracked and wrote about the Gene Chapman Presidential campaign. More like, had fun with it. In any case, he has taken an interest in me and has begun writings regarding our various LibertyInLaw projects, specifically now, the YCLA. In the past few days the number of visits here has thus become quite astronomical. Thanks, Zeno! :-) The really amazing part about reading this stuff is the high degree of emotional wor …

2007-09-01 18:12 The Legend of Joseph Josiah ROBBINS
See images of your Civil War ancestors' Pension Index cards. When I was growing up, one of the favorite things I loved to hear when I being tucked in bed by my father were the old family stories. Living in Southeast Alaska in the '70s, no one had television, unless they lived in one of the cities like Ketchikan. So good books and other printed material, oral stories, and recorded music (once our little farm outside of town got electricity) were our main forms of entertainment. How grateful I am …

2007-08-29 14:33 The Grand Narrative of the Scriptures: Experiencing the Big Picture
I have the privilege of engaging a group of student leaders Thursday evening (8/30) who participate in the Wesley Foundation at the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) in conversation about the broad narrative of the Bible. Here are some notes from the presentation that I will make. 1) The grand narrative (or metanarrative) of the Scriptures: Creation Fall Israel (the Call of God's people) Jesus the Messiah Church (the Sending of God's people) New Creation 2) Importance of Creation ï® Mission …

Serious Drafting Problems in Measure Circulating on Streets By Josiah Green "Oops, I did it again." Given the embarrassing state of Britney Spears these days, it seems appropriate to quote the former Mouseketeer to describe what can only be labeled a major embarrassment for the self-anointed "property rights" advocates on the right. Last year voters rejected Proposition 90 -- the fake "eminent domain reform" measure that was a front to eviscerate environmental and consumer protection laws. This …

2007-08-26 06:54 ::A Late Summer Photo Date::
There's nothing I enjoy more than hanging out with family. BUT a close second is photographing family...lol. I was mowing the grass this morning (which incidentally www.sparkpeople.com said I burned 1080 calories doing this 2.5 hour task) and I decided that today was the perfect day for photo date. Photo dates are a great way to hone your art and have tons of fun at the same time. Of course, the photo date MUST be fun for your subjects. I think Addy and Josiah would say they had a good time ;). …

Another hallelujah chorus Answers in Genesis has tidings of great joy. The creationist ministry has announced the winners of this year's essay contest. The Research Challenge Contest for 2007 was designed to serve in part as a promotional campaign for AiG 's new (but already revised ) creationism text, Evolution Exposed. The rules required that the teenage entrants refer to the book: Write your research paper using at least one reference from the book Evolution Exposed and one reference from the …

2007-08-21 04:15 Christians in a Pluralistic World
As we become more aware of the diversity of beliefs within our communities, our nation and in the world, we find ourselves sharing our lives with those who practice a wide variety of faith traditions. One of the results of this increased awareness of diversity is the inclination for religious beliefs to become a private matter, for the sake of the harmony of the larger community. Consequently, our beliefs are becoming more and more subjective, and the values and universal principles that such be …

2007-08-20 20:32 "Adequate Education"... Slowly I turned...step by step...inch by inch...
. The Wikipedia tells us that the phrase starting with the words "Slowly I Turned" is the most common name associated with a popular vaudeville sketch that has also been performed in cinema and on television... It is a familiar comedic routine that has two performers pretending to meet for the first time, with one of them becoming highly agitated over the utterance of particular words. Names and cities (such as Niagara Falls) have been used as the trigger, which then send the unbalanced person i …

2007-08-19 17:28 Are There Jobs That Swedes Won t Do
I usually like The Washington Times, and tend to agree with its editorial opinions. However, an editorial by Josiah Baker in today s Times about immigration in Sweden seems to be somewhat off the mark. It doesn t entirely accord with what I ve learned in the last year or so both from my contacts in Sweden and in the Scandinavian media. Here are some excerpts from Mr. Baker s editorial ; Swedish readers are invited to put in their two öre s worth: As is true in most European countries, Sweden s a …

2007-08-18 17:26 I'm back...and have my head in the books!
Thank you for all your kind comments about my short break. The week was wonderful, and went by so fast. As I drove away from Mom and Dad's house last night with tears in my eyes, I was praying that it won't be another two years before I see Andrea again. The kids all had so much fun playing together. I wish they were closer! And our week was also poignant with the knowledge that next June, my youngest sister Marni and her family will be moving to St. Louis so her husband can attend seminary. Sin …

2007-08-16 21:15 Depression Again August 13, 2007
I feel like a failure in every way. I don t know how normal, happy people do it. I m tired of my messy tendencies and my inability to keep house well. Tired of feeling disorganized and unscheduled. I feel like a failure with my kids when Naomi is so insolent, or I have to call Josiah three times before he comes, I just wonder why I ever thought I could parent. And how ridiculous to think I can home-school!!! I m a discouraging, nagging wife to Steve, and a non-existent neighbor and witness. I ve …

The early rounds in the sprint tournament were this morning. Suffice to say, it's amazing. You needed to ride an 11.1 sec 200 m to qualify, and they took the top 18. It was strange to see Teun Mulder winning his ride. A consolation ride. For 22nd. These guys are fast. I'll let the pictures say the rest. There were no lack of tight finishes. Here Jason Kenny (UK) beats Adam Duvendeck (Momentum) with a picture prefect bike throw. Ben Barczewski (T-Town Express) staged the only upset in the first r …

Hello All! John was unable to show the Jesus film at that dump site the other day...they have to wait until they receive permission. They were directed to the perfect place to show the film but it turns out that that area is government owned so they must receive permission first. They should be able to show it within the next week. Well I helped Pii On at her shop tonight for a few hours and it was sooo busy! Thai people LOVE fruit! Here are some pics from today. 2007-08-14 02:41 Know thy Opponent 2007: Indiana Hoosiers
We're finally to the end of the schedule and I am going to make a bold prediction: The Bucket game will not matter when it comes to us making a bowl game. I predict that at this point in the season we will either already have the requisite six wins needed to qualify for a bowl game, or will have already lost seven games and have no chance of playing in the post-season. The feeling of this year's team is one of extremes. Either it will be very good and surprise most people, or will be very bad an …
