Carnage at Earthlink. And more to come probably. 2007-08-27 07:27 Charlotte Observer: Cal awaits Vols, redemption
Tennessee ruined Cal's title hopes last season; now, game in Berkeley JOE DAVIDSON A year ago, Cal ventured to Knoxville, Tenn., to kick-start a football season of promise. The Bears collectively gulped when they had to inhale the heat and humidity, and to comprehend just how rabid 102,038 orange-clad fanatics packed into Neyland Stadium can be. By the time it was 35-0 in a game that finished 35-18 for the Volunteers, Cal's national championship picture had been hopelessly smeared. Bears coach J …

2007-08-26 01:34 Solar Energy and Water Conservation
The Tennessee Valley Authority, the nation s largest public utility, shut down one of three units at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Athens, Ala., on Thursday because water drawn from the Tennessee River was exceeding a 90-degree average over 24 hours. œWe don t believe we ve ever shut down a nuclear unit because of river temperature, said John Moulton, spokesman for the Knoxville, Tenn.-based utility. The shutdown posed no safety threat, but it came as TVA hit records for power consumption …

2007-08-21 06:00 Stop children what's that sound...
Everybody look what's goin' down... KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A three-year veil of secrecy in the name of national security was used to keep the public in the dark about the handling of highly enriched uranium at a nuclear fuel processing plant including a leak that could have caused a deadly, uncontrolled nuclear reaction. This goes to the heart of why warrant-less domestic spying is so dangerous and why we shouldn't just take the Bush administration's word for it that they've got sufficient internal …

2007-08-20 20:12 BUT THEY ALWAYS TELL US TO "JUST BE PATIENT"
One of the biggest complaints people have with government at any level is simply that no one pays any attention to what the people think. And by the people, I mean everyone, but the wealthy and business types. Oh, and, of course, government officials and politicians listen to each other. Us, well who cares what we think, they'll just tell us what we ought to think Hell, I'm not even talking about the big stuff like Iraq or global warming. We know the powers that be could care less about what we …

To business, tomorrow's Solemnity of the Assumption brings the installation of Archbishop-elect Joseph Kurtz of Louisville. The 2pm liturgy -- to be held in the city's Gardens hall, across the stree …
