At the Tokyo Auto Show this month, Mazda unveiled its latest concept car, the Taiki. It s the latest addition to the Nagare design theme, following in the footsteps of the Mazda Nagare, Mazda Ryuga and Mazda Hakaze concept vehicles unveiled earlier this year. As the fourth in the series, Mazda Taiki further advances and refines the theme through a fusion of the Nagare (flow) design concept and real-world technologies, such as a next-generation rotary engine and enhanced aerodynamic performance. …

Cars. There is a vibrant car culture in Romania. Here, BMW, Audi and Mercedes rule the roost. As for American cars, Ford has a decent presence in the Romanian market. Chrysler, probably due to the Mercedes ownership is making small in-roads (Ha! Cranky made a funny). If you want a GM, well you can get one - sorta. Korean car manufacturer Daewoo is controlled by GM and is quite popular here. What is suspiciously rare here is Toyota. The joke is that Toyotas are cars for Americans. I told them to …

2007-10-13 18:55  Air conditioning no longer optional.
Let's see what's on the menu today at TracY's House of Life... Finally got myself into a new car last weekend. After thinking very long and very hard, I made the decision to not get the Z. If I'm to buy a house in the next year or so, I really should think of the best way to save money. Spending as much as the Z would cost was not the best way to save money. So I decided to be practical and go with Mazda 6 (I'm too lazy to take pictures of my own car so that's it... color and all). It was the sh …

Toyota's lost another top American executive to Detroit. If you'll remember from way back in early September, Jim Press left Toyota as chief operating officer of North America for a gig at Chrysler as vice chairman in charge of knowing how to run an automaker. Now Toyota's lost their second Jim as twenty-year veteran marketing man Jim Farley ( who is not at all related to Chris Farley actually is the cousin of Chris Farley -- who knew ) is headed to Ford to become the automaker's first veep of m …

2007-10-10 13:45  Nissan - Nissan NV200 Concept Van Video
A typical small van is little more than an empty box on wheels: functional, certainly, but seldom innovative or smart. But designers from Nissan Design Center (NDC) in Japan and Nissan Design Europe in the UK had other ideas. In creating NV200, the joint team have devised a concept that could revolutionise the small van market. "A commercial vehicle has a specific job to perform, but that's no reason to design a purely rational vehicle with no warmth. In NV200, function becomes the aesthetic. NV …

Mazda 6. Hitting dealerships at the end of 2008, the 2009 Mazda6 made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show last week. Lighter, more aerodynamic than the old Mazda 6, and featuring a new interior and new suspension, the blogs are buzzing about its sporty, high design look, comparing it to the new CX-9 crossover. American enthusiasts hope that the Mazda6 intended for the North American audience will differ as little as possible from the European model. Design Chief Youichi Sato describes the desig …

2007-09-05 19:51  Last Chance for Toyota Hybrid Tax Credit
Due to the popularity of the Toyota Prius hybrid, Sept. 30 will be the last day you can purchase any Toyota or Lexus hybrid and be eligible for a federal tax credit. Even then, that credit will be just 25% of the original credit offered on the Toyota models. After Sept. 30, there will be no tax credit for Toyota or Lexus hybrids. Other automakers still have healthy tax credits available through Sept. 30, including Honda, on the 2007 Accord and Civic hybrids. The 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid actually …

2007-09-02 06:21  A Weekend
It's been a busy weekend here in Mornington. I had big plans for Saturday, along the lines of going scooter shopping and putting the Mazda up on Trademe. However I got overtaken by a bout of post-run inertia. I wasn't really tired, just not in the mood for doing anything. I would have stayed on the sofa all day if it weren't for our neighbour. Barry is a member of the Wellington band President Gas. He has invited us to at least a couple of his gigs in the past and we've never managed to get our …

2007-09-01 23:21  I'm a Ford guy! But it's tough sometimes
I'm a Ford guy, no doubt about it, but it's tough sometimes to be a Ford fanatic. I've owned quite a few Fords over the years and still have my Ranger. I love my Ranger, it's a great truck, but if I was going out to buy a replacement I'm not sure it would be a Ford. And that's not good for Ford, not good at all. Every company wants new customers, ones that haven't purchased their brand before, but in reality they rely heavily on repeat customers. When I bought my Ranger, it compared favorably to …

It's been a while since I've written, and I promise I'll stop apologizing for not writing nearly as often lately. August was a busy month, and I just began school again, so I won't be able to write as often as I would like, but that should still mean pretty often once I get back to somewhere close to my former pace. Yay! Every cell in my body has been screaming joy at the change in the seasons this week. I've been forced to sit at my desk, fidgeting and fussing, while out the window the sun has shone and the trees erupted with new growth. There hasn't been much productivity going on, so I've listened to my body and spent as much time as possible outside. I had a remarkably ordinary run on Thursday, but then I was running during my lunchbreak, so had limited options route-wise. Duck worked my glutes and legs …

Post by Kasey Kagawa I want to clear something up right now on this whole crossover/CUV trend that's infesting the automotive industry at the moment. There are two types of crossovers. One kind are those car-chassis based SUVs that we can't call SUVs anymore because if you do that, Greenpeace pickets outside your factories and your sanctimonious asshole neighbors will put a pickaxe through your windshield; the others are minivans on stilts that we can't call "minivans on stilts" because that's n …

FAW, like SAIC, have been busy squirrling away over the past few months with the goal of creating their own brand name which they can sell domestically and internationally. FAW came up with the Besturn sedan, not really a great name to be honest, is it to be read as 'Best Urn' or if you're from Northern England is the car to be named "Best 'un" regardless of the funny name, the car doesnt look that too bad. Erik tells us the car is basically a Mazda 6 (FAW seemed to have successfully negotiated …

Zimbabwe's octogenarian dictator Robert Mugabe has, apparently, decided that the current smoldering ruins of his nation's economy aren't, er, smoldering or ruined enough. Therefore, in a fit of inspired brilliance, Mugabe has decreed that the small handful of foreign owned companies remaining in Zimbabwe s hould hand over 51% ownership to "native Zimbabweans", thereby destroying whatever slim chances remained that foreign companies will be bringing any investment whatsoever to the world's most d …
