2007-11-01 13:24 REPORTING ON A PERSONAL CRUSADE FOR DEMOCRACY.
With Argentinian legislators, in Buenos Aires. EXPOSING THE CHAVEZ NIGHTMARE IN LATIN AMERICA. From Washington. Yesterday I came back home after a twelve-day trip to southern Latin America. During those days I took eight planes, gave ten conferences/talks, five newspaper interviews and participated in five TV programs and four radio programs. The topic: Hugo Chavez: Corruption and Socialism of the XXI century. I gave factual and statistical data to show how Hugo Chavez had converted Venezuela an …

2007-10-22 22:45 COHA Report. The Organization of American States: On its Deathbed
To Our Readers Unfortunately, an older and unedited version of the COHA piece entitled The OAS: On its Deathbed was inadvertently sent out to a very small cohort of COHA readers on October 17 before an error was discovered and the press run was immediately aborted. Due to a computer editing error, the author, Sean Bartlett did not catch that two different facts were spliced into one sentence. Jose Miguel Insulza, as a young man in his late twenties, was a political director in the Chilean For …

2007-10-15 22:50 I am unequivocally anti-abortion
We've been receiving a lot of visitors from the popular blog Feministe thanks to one of its avid readers, Karen (AKA Kitty). In response to a story on the death of a significant number of women in Nicaragua after their attempt to procure illegal abortions, Karen sounded a clarion: May I make a radical [...]

2007-10-15 14:11 Nicaragua Since Abortion Ban
The Guardian of the U.K. recently published an article claiming 82 deaths from botched abortions since Nicaragua completely banned abortion. Vox Nova was linked at another web site that is supportive of abortion rights on this issue. As a general reminder, I should note that Vox Nova does not have corporate positions. The views expressed on Vox [...]

2007-10-14 23:27 Al Gore is not a Man of Peace
Written by Zatikia and posted in the Further Left Forum The real problem with Gore getting this award, an award who's past recipients include Jimmy Carter, Doctors Without Boarders, Kim Dae-Jung, Amnesty International, Bishop Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Unicef, MLK, and the Red Cross, is Gore has a pro-war record as a politician. When he was in Congress, he supported Reagan's and Bush senior's wars. He voted to give aid to Reagan's "freedom fighters" in Nicaragua (although he later changed his opinion …

A baby is an alimentary canal with a loud voice at one end and no responsibility at the other. Ronald Reagan A people free to choose will always choose peace. Ronald Reagan A tree's a tree. How many more do you need to look at Ronald Reagan Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have. Ronald Reagan All great change in America …

2007-10-13 21:06 Presents!
The last couple of days have been great! Three different parcels, all cool stuff. First off was a large box from Compak. I had no idea what this might be and I opened it up to find this: They had planned to give it to me in Tokyo but it had got stuck en route and hadn't made it in time. I have no idea if it is possible to pour latte art in it (it must be at least 4 litres in size!) but I will try... Then I had a very kind gift from Guido at La Marzocco - three of their books. Many of you probabl …

2007-10-10 22:08 The Perfect Crime
You know how it is. Every time you write a rhyme, people think it's a crime to tell them what's on your mind. Naomi Klein is such a thought-criminal, if Will Hutton's allergic gyrations are any guide. That sort of liberal always hates Klein, for being more than the left-flank of neoliberalism (Hutton has almost completely lost his critical edge, and is these days a Eustonian). Hitchens' sort of illiberal hates her too: for recommending that Iraq's economy be transformed into a giant windfarm col …

By Ignacio Ramonet, editor of Le Monde diplomatique and co-author with Fidel Castro of the forthcoming Fidel Castro: My Life; he speaks tonight at London Metropolitan University (THE GUARDIAN, 10/10/07): For the first time in almost 50 years, Fidel Castro is not in control of Cuba. And contrary to predictions, the system has not broken down, the population has not revolted, the revolution has not reversed. Now the analysts are asking: will it last Is Raúl Castro going to reroute the revolution H …

2007-10-10 09:39 A Contrary Look at Multinational Oil Shares
It's difficult to fault the performance of XOM stock (blue line above), as it has nearly tripled in the recent bull market. Interestingly, however, over the past decade, XOM--denominated in barrels of WTI crude--has actually fallen in valuation. In other words, crude oil has handily outperformed XOM stock. Another way of viewing this relationship is that, given XOM's ability to at least replace reserves, investors are placing a lower value on each barrel of oil-equivalent owned by XOM. That fact …

2007-10-05 14:23 Latin America File: Investors flee Nicaragua as Sandinistas align with Caracas, Tehran, seize Exxon …
Reality bites hard in this "post"-Cold War era when Marxist revolutionaries-turned-democratically elected heads of government resort to their old tricks. Neo-Sandinista Nicaragua, for example, is a key component in the Communist Bloc's Latin American section. Here President Daniel Ortega, who is reverting to his old practices of nationalizing (stealing) private property and punishing political opponents, has revealed his true color: red. Pictured here: Comrade Dan buds around with Iranian Tyrant …

2007-10-02 20:28 USA File: Leftist billionaire and media mogul Turner cozies up to Ortega; Daniel's wife: Ted "loves" …
One important reason that the West cannot mount a vigorous defense against the Communist Bloc is due to the treason of its political, military, and business leaders. Ted Turner--the leftist billionaire founder of Cable News Network and patron saint of the United Nations who hates Christians and Israel --falls into the last category. Comrade Ted's long-time relationship with Nicaragua's "reformed" communist dictator Daniel Ortega not only exposes this nexus of corrupt power politics, but also rev …

2007-09-28 05:24 Ahmadinejad in Caracas
The cadena starts. A pathetic reception, late at night on the steps of Miraflores with a small group of officials and a military band. Chavez endorses Ahmadinejerk fully, including all things nuclear, including defending him for his "courageous" posture in the trap set by the lackey of the Empire, namely the very Liberal Dean of Columbia who had the misfortune to invite him to call him a dictator. I mean, if you invite someone you should be at least polite enough to call him a dictator BEFORE or …

2007-09-22 16:28 VENEZUELA: STRATEGIES OF AN AUTHORITARIAN PETROSTATE
POVERTY AND TRASH.... During the last nine years Venezuelan democracy has been transformed into a tropical monarchy. For the first time since Fidel Castro s 1962 s missile crisis a Latin American despot has pretensions of global hegemony. Oil and hate are being combined to produce a greatly dangerous threat to U.S. national security. What is the potential impact of these strategies on hemispheric and, even, world s political stability 1. From Democracy to tropical Monarchy. Hugo Chavez has now r …

2007-09-07 18:11 Nicaraguan papers round up Hurricane Felix aftermath
The death toll from Hurricane Felix which struck Nicaragua three days ago may run into the thousands, but accurate figures have yet to be established, according to Nicaraguan newspapers. The daily La Prensa newspaper quotes Carlos Solano of the National Army's Special Operations Committee as saying the figure might run as high as 3,000 because some areas of the affected regions have not been reached yet. ...
