2007-10-11 09:54  A Martyr in Gaza: Rami Khader Ayyad
Randall Buth in a post at ETC notes the wanton killing of Rami Khader Ayyad, the director of the bookstore of the Palestine Bible Society in Gaza. Bibbiablog has far more information on the killing, from an article in Corriere della Sera, the Italian equivalent of the New York Times. Below the fold I provide details in English translation. ETC s labels for the post, let it be said, are spot on: œBible Society, Christian, Islam, martyr, Middle East. The Bible Society s Gaza bookstore was set on …

2007-10-08 12:31  Kristen palestinier mördad i Gaza
Ayyad begravdes igår i kyrkan al-Roum, Gaza. JPost skriver följande: They noted that a …

Agonizing Choices of War - Harlan Ullman, Washington Times Despite many positive reports about the progress of the military "surge" in Iraq, we, our coalition partners and the Iraqis face agonizing choices about what to do after the long-awaited reports from the ground commander, Gen. David Petraeus, and Ambassador Ryan Crocker are received in three weeks time choices that at best can only limit and not end the carnage, and, if wrongly implemented, could inflict the entire region with greater vi …

2007-08-20 16:13  Emotion in Writing
If there's not enough of it, I put the book down. I don't know what your preference is--let me know, I'm interested. Before today, I was acutely aware of what made me stop reading a story, but in writing a synopsis for my own novel, it came crashing down around me. Let's be honest, no one really like synopsis writing, including me. I wrote a couple of versions and thank God for the Misfits. The first version was in past tense (yes, I'm green) so I fixed that. The second version wasn't much bette …

In the previous post, I broached a major topic - the epistemological crisis provoked by the skew of European anti-Zionism and anti-Americanism and their complementary silence in criticizing Islamism because of the unacknowledged intimidation factor that is compounded with a combination of hypocrisy and resentment (the "moral" assault on Israel and the USA). So the reader of the MSM would have virtually no idea (unless he or she paid close attention to the occasional honest remarks and unintimida …

2007-08-17 08:38  paris - day 2
I forgot to mention that with all of our walking on the first day, Rami hurt his foot. So on the second day we woke up to rain, grey skies and a hobbling husband. Nothing dampened our spirits though and we chose to buy a metro pass to get around. This time we walked to the Louvre - even stunning in the rain, the Jardin des Tuileries and to Notre Dame - another favourite of mine. The scupltured details in this gothic cathedral are breathtaking and very powerful in imagery. We stood in the rain st …

How Not to Get Out of Iraq - Max Boot, Commentary The current build-up of American forces in Iraq universally known as the œsurge was unveiled by President Bush on January 10. The earliest units shipped out in the middle of February, and the full complement of roughly 160,000 troops arrived only in June. Yet, by then, a vociferous chorus of voices back home consisting mainly of Democrats but also of a growing number of middle-of-the-road Republicans was already pronouncing the entire operation …
