2007-11-06 23:30 New Softball Stadium Named Bogle Park
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The new University of Arkansas Lady Razorback softball stadium has been named Bogle Park. Bogle Park was made possible thanks to the lead gift made by Bob and Marilyn Bogle and the Bogle family who have also made significant contributions to both the university and the athletic departments over the course of many years. An event celebrating the naming was held Friday, Oct. 26.

2007-10-13 01:27 Food find: National Museum of the American Indian
The National Museum of the American Indian is one of the most fascinating buildings on the mall, not just because of its architecture, but also it's minimal collection and amazing food court. Founded by an act of Congress in 1989, the museum was built to preserve, honor and celebrate Native American history throughout the Western hemisphere. The building was designed by an architect who is a member of the Blackfoot tribe to honor nature and the surroundings. Stones were brought in from New Mexic …

Living as I do in the fourth circle of Hell--Little Rock--located just between the circle where Lloyd Carr will burn for eternity and the circle where Bud Adams will toil, it's a rarity when I get to see the Texans on regular television. It's pretty much limited to (a) when they play the Cowgirls, because they are "America's Team" and, by "America," I mean "Mouthbreathing Rednecks" (which appeals to the key demographic here); (b) when they play the Jaguars, because the Jags feature former Arkans …

2007-08-29 15:48 i heart arkansas!
I love being home. It's not that I didn't love some things about Oxford, MS...it's just that Oxford never felt like home. I do miss my friends though. (I'll be there this weekend, y'all...so get ready!) Yesterday, I was thrilled to discover that my favorite morning DJ was still on the air, just on a different station. Tommy Smith aka The Outlaw, apparently moved to 103.7, which is a sports talk radio station. I'm not sure exactly what happened between Tommy and his former radio station, Magic 10 …

2007-08-27 03:13 The RWB and the Notting Hill Carnival
Did you see that float No but someone has stolen my purse. Remember the fuss over the RWB, when all Tri-Axis parties were trying to prevent the British National Party from holding its annual Red White and Blue festival on the grounds that it would incite violence and the cost of policing it And didn't they crow afterwards when reports of a violent skirmish surfaced after the event. If you were there, you remember the disgusting scene at the Punch and Judy show, when Mr Policeman was wacking ever …

2007-08-24 01:38 FIBA Americas--Day 2 Recap & Analysis
USA Rolls Over V.I. & Venezuela: Not gonna waste your time breaking down these games, pretty pointless exercise to me. Not sure you can take much away from these games--Venezuela & VI are probably the two worst teams in this competition. Really hard to gauge exactly how well the US is playing on the the defensive end since they're matched against such inept offensive teams. So I'll wait til the weekend's over to get a better picture where Team USA stands after games vs. Canada & Brazil. Argentin …

2007-08-22 10:57 Thoughts on the SEC - Surprise!! Surprise!!
It s SEC time as Stiles Points puts the spotlight on the best football conference in the country..... East 1. South C arolina (10-2)- I m going out on the limb and take a risk here....Steve Spurrier (photo) gets the Gamecocks into the SEC title game....he returns 7 starters on offense and 10 on a defense that gave up only 18.7 PPG.....LB Jasper Brinkley is a stud who anchors the defense....the running game should be just fine with Cory Boyd and Mike Davis returning....the key to this team is at …

2007-08-20 02:52 Birthday Girls
August is an eventful month for us...two birthdays in 6 days! (We thought Emlyn was going to be born on Bayley's 2nd birthday, but she was born six days later.) We've had a full week of celebrations, and we aren't finished yet! Here are some pictures of the fun so far... Bayley in her pink hog hat. She and Peter follow in their Papaw's footsteps as Razorback fans, and Bayley has wanted a pink hog hat forever. Bayley ready for church on her birthday. I can't believe she is *8*! She is becoming su …

2007-08-18 17:28 PANGRAMS: SENTENCES WITH EVERY LETTER
source A pangram is a sentence that contains all letters of the alphabet. Less frequently, such sentences are called holalphabetic sentences. Interesting pangrams are generally short ones; constructing a sentence that includes the fewest repeat letters possible is a challenging task. However, pangrams that are slightly longer yet enlightening, humorous, or eccentric are noteworthy in their own right. By far the most well-known pangram is, "The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog." Frequently t …

2007-08-18 07:40 Good Riddance To Dennis Hastert And Tony Snow
Two of the most despicable swine who ever despoiled the national barnyard bit the dust yesterday, and none to soon. Predictably, they both lied their despicable swine asses off about it. Hastert Say He's Not Seeking Re-Election Rep. Dennis Hastert, who was speaker of the House longer than any Republican, announced Friday morning he will not seek another term in Congress. Speaking to hundreds of supporters outside the Kendall County Courthouse in his northern Illinois district, Hastert thanked st …

2007-08-16 03:07 Who Is The Front Runner
That is the salient issue at this point in the Heisman race.
The front runner is either Arkansas running back
Darren McFadden or USC quarterback
John David Booty.
Yes, I know, the vast majority of college players chose McFadden as the runaway leader in a recent survey, but those guys don't vote for the Heisman.
As usual, this site is focused on what the real voters will actually do when the ballots are due.
Truth be told, McFadden …

2007-08-13 17:35 what's your number
there was a story by gina kolata in the new york times on sunday that caught my attention. the title was of the article was "the myth, the math, the sex." it delved into the subject of sexual numerology, specifically how recent studies done on male/female sexual behavior have resulted in the men that were surveyed claiming to have slept with far more people than the women who participated in these surveys claimed to. on the face of it, this seems to be a predictable outcome. i mean, after all, e …

2007-08-09 17:07 Did Nutt Want the Alabama Job
A possible "Smoking Gun" has surfaced in the long-running soap opera at Arkansas. Enter Sherri Darby, an employee of the Department of Finance and Administration who shares a home with Teresa Prewett. Prewett, a friend of Arkansas coach Houston Nutt, sent a critical email to then-Razorback quarterback Mitch Mustain on Dec. 7, 2006, and critics alleged that Nutt was behind the email. Mustain has since transferred to USC. Nutt, of course, has denied any involvement, but that didn't stop John David …

2007-08-08 09:37 At Times, Life Can Be a Drag for McFadden
Arkansas' Darren McFadden is shall we say an interesting fella. In June, Kelly Whiteside of USA Today reported that the Razorback running back used to wear dresses to Oak Grove High in North Little Rock. A trusted source in the Razorback State sent along this beaut of McFadden with three of his Oak Grove classmates. As the story goes, McFadden would raid his grandmother s closet and wear the most hideous looking outfits he could find to school. He has the ugliest legs ever, said Leecie Henson …

2007-08-05 01:03 I Love You, Google
Buy up everything. I don't care if you run the entire Internet. You bring me happiness in three-word search strings, and the world to my monitor. If I were single, I would totally date you, just so I could turn to you during movies and ask, "Could that really happen" I haven't done one of these in a really, really long time, so I thought I'd look back today at The Week In Google, and collect some of my favorite searches that brought people here to this site. Some I can explain, some I can't, but …

Fox13/OnMemphis on Mediaverse .Thanks. ___________________________ My apologies to The Bear but, at this moment, I've never felt closer to an Arkansas fan than I do now. Thomas McAfee, I am you. In the latest issue of ESPN The Magazine, there's a story on McAfee, a Razorback faithful who kicked off the furor surrounding Coach Houston Nutt when, acting on a tip, he filed a FOIA request for Nutt's text messages and cell phone records. Then, he started to publicly question the coach about his relat …

________________________________ THAT CAN'T BE SAFE Darren McFadden's car Heisman trophy front-runner Darren McFadden has decided to give his car a little face-lift. These pictures appear to have been taken right next to the Taco Bell on College St. in Fayetteville, Ar. Along with the Razorback emblem on the side, McFadden chose to stick 26 inch rims on his, Hog red, Ford Crown Victoria. Somehow, McFadden can pull this off. Where was Houston Nutt when McFadden decided to turn his car into a limb …

Darren McFadden is Humanity Advanced, so we are not surprised to find the Arkansas Razorback RB demands that his automobile reflect the dedication of someone bound and determined to stretch the limits of engineering. Or failing that, at least McFadden will squeeze every ounce of recoverable pimp juice from the humble frame of what appears to be a Ford Taurus. Correction: commenters leaning towards Crown Vic, which is even better. Presenting: Midsize American Sedan-ity Advanced. (HT: Stephen) I w …

Yeah, I know that I have too many bikes right now. In addition to the eight bikes shown here, I have 4 complete framesets and several wheelsets and other large items that are just taking up space at my house. I have been going through my bike room the last week or so and organizing what I want to sell. Some of the items in the sell and donate piles are pretty easy to part with, like the old Trek frame that I have on eBay right now. Others won t be so easy to let go, like the 1984 Pinarello track …

Les Miles, I don't even like LSU. I've never had an affinity for them, ever. The Tigers could go 0-12 or 13-0 every year and I'd say "so what" But I am rooting for you now my man. It's about damn time that a coach stood up and said what college football buffs have been saying behind closed doors and what some *ahem... college football media outlets are paid not to say :"I would like nothing better than to play USC for the [national] title," Miles reportedly said in a speech to a heavily pro-LSU …

Is past. It's over. That's about the best thing. That it's behind us. Well, that and that my husband did NOT, in fact, have to participate in a scene from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Because he was sunk in a powerful depressive cycle, and so help me, the words "if this Lamictal increase doesn't work, we can always try ECT ," flew out of our doctor's mouth like they were on wings. 2007-06-27 03:34 New Developments and the Supreme Court
Cartoon by Signe Wilkinson Two weeks ago, the National Audubon Society reported that many common birds are in steep decline. (I discussed the report here ; more discussion at 10000Birds .) The report cited several causes for species decline, one of which was the transformation of former habitat into suburban developments. This presents a difficult problem for conservationists. Development tends to happen in little chunks - a hundred acres here, a thousand acres there. Most individual projects ar …
