2007-10-25 17:37 Daydreaming...

2007-10-21 03:54 The Positive Side of Limited Closet Space
Lately, I have been enlightened by the Voluntary Simplicity movement. Voluntary simplicity is the act of consciously minimizing the pursuit of consumption in favor of spirituality, health, stress reduction, and conservation. In essence, after reading up on the subject, my goal is to reduce the accumulation of 'stuff' in my life. For the first time since moving into my 1950s home I see the positive side of limited closet space. Lacking the room to store items is as good a reason as any not to buy …

2007-10-18 20:21 Autumnal inspirations
I flash my chocolate brown yarn which will be used for my next pullover project, the Cozy V-neck by nowadays B6-vitamine eating pregnant Glampyre. Här, måste visa mina fina röda skor som jag berättat om och som jag hittade hos Knulp .Here, I must show you my new red shoes tha …

They're still forecasting rain, but you wouldn't know it to look outside. Mom, Chappy, and I went to our usual, favorite park this morning for a walk, but we also stopped at our favorite farm. We looked at the pumpkins, and then bought some apples, a couple doughnuts, and a blueberry pie. Mmmmm... Although, unfortunately, the Macouns were past their prime. They're at their best early in the season, and now, the middle of October, they're not quite at their crunchy best. And so, I didn't buy any …

2007-10-18 11:08 Sewing Puzzle: skirt detail
I've posted pattern puzzles aplenty. Today, Esther contributes a sewing challenge. Come to think of it, many past puzzles were sewing challenges too. So, perhaps this is the first in a new series. Thanks for the idea Esther. Feel free to submit an idea yourself. Esther writes: I posted an entry on my blog today about a girl's dress patent. I have attempted in the past to come up with a mass construction technique to create the design element on the upper skirt side. It might be an interesting ch …

2007-10-18 02:24 Handicraft Questions (and answers)
Fall and winter seem to be good seasons for handicrafts. There's just something appealing about being in a warm, comfortable room and working with your hands while the wind blows outside. Thanks to Charlotte Mason for including handicrafts in her broad curriculum! Which handicrafts should I choose Charlotte had two over-arching principles for handicrafts: useful and doable. Make sure the finished product will be something that can be used (not just displayed on the refrigerator and then tossed i …

Last weekend our local patchwork group held an exhibition. We have had them before, but either on a small scale, or as part of another event. This time we decided to go it alone. As anyone who has ever organised anything will agree, it's a lot of work. Apart from the extra planning meetings, there's the booking of halls and quilt stands, publicity, delivering of flyers and posters, baking of cakes, writing of labels and lists, collection of quilts and sales table items, not to mention the sewing …

2007-10-16 12:05 Craft Biz Q+A: Made by Tess
This week's interviewee is Tess Lee, the creative force behing the super-sweet site Made by Tess. Tess is an avid crafter and sewer, and a fairly recent transplant to North Carolina, where she participates in her local quilt guild (even riding to meetings with her sewing machine strapped to her bike). She's best known for her quirky, one-of-a-kind totebags and aprons sewn with vintage and vintage-inspired fabrics in various color and pattern combos. She also starred as MC Polar Pants in the hila …

2007-10-16 03:13 Thinking of You
Yes, I have been thinking of you, my blog reading community. I have been thinking about how I really REALLY need to post soon. I have so much to tell you and so little motivation to get it done. So here are some highlights in the crafting world. Bradshaw is done, the post is written, now all I need are the pictures to go with it! The weather, my motivation, and the presence of photographers is not cooperating. I went to a yarn swap on Sunday. It was so great. I donated 37 balls to the swa …

2007-10-16 02:29 Why Would I Want to Stay Home Part 2
As Part 1 explained, being a keeper at home does involve some plain, ordinary work, just like any other job does. And viewing that working through the light of the Christian duty, we find a wealth of opportunities to serve our families. But that is only a part of what being a keeper at home is...there is so much more, although the "so much more" has been lost! The picture of staying home is so marred by feminists influences, that most women truly don't understand the plethora of activities, oppo …

w00t! Both my art pieces sold at Pure Spec! They sold for $50 in total, Pure Spec takes a cut for charity so I made $40! Woooo! That's a $40 profit on the Pure Spec Festival as the money I made from selling my comics paid for all my costs. *puts it in the cookie jar* I'm saving up for either a book case or a sewing machine.

Um not so much.....forgive me, I've been dancing with Mr. Migraine for the pass few days therefore I've nothing prepared for today.............sigh I had planned on doing a nifty pictorial (even though I take crummy pix) on the construction of a windmill. We have a windfarm 7 miles north with approximately 65 windmills and currently they are erecting another windfarm about 2 miles south of us. That farm will have a total of 100 windmills when it is complete and operating this December. I'll stil …

All Buttoned Up loves the feel (but not the look) of white athletic socks worn with boots. So she's come up with this ingenious way to sew faux-socks ("but not legwarmers"!) that fake the look of colorful socks when they peek out between skirt and boot. As she points out, it's also a nice way to get used to sewing stretchy material. Link. [ Read this article ] [ Comment on this article ]

Don't forget to send me your links (cmautneratcomcastdotnet). And with that, here's Tom Spurgeon : Q: Tell me about some of your influences. What critics do you admire both inside and outside of comics A: That s a really good question because it s one I don t really have an answer for. I m not horribly well read in comics. How-to books are explanations of how to accomplish specific tasks written for non-experts. It's a diverse category, covering things like personal finance, diet and health, cooking, house and home, and personal development. According to Simba Information s Business of Consumer Book Publishing, the how-to market generated sales of $270 million in 2006, an increase of 3.8% over 2005, and 10.2% over 2002. How-to books accounted for 4.3% of total consumer book sales in 2006. The top five publishers i …

2007-10-15 04:31 Quilt Activities for the Week
I spent almost all week engaged in quilt related activities. First, I picked up my Nosegay from the quilter. She did a fantastic job. Photos to follow as it is such a monster I have to move furniture to get any kind of photo. I also picked up some quilts from the photographer so I can update Artquiltmaker.com. The quilts are older, but it turned out that I didn't have good photos of these quilts. I also spent a few days this week at PIQF with the JCN, The Fabric Queen (a new moniker for an exist …

Yesturday was a fairly productive day...i sewed together all of these HST pieces left over from the christmas star swap. i think they look pretty good together considering they were scraps :) i need to choose a border, etc...but now i can put this aside to mess with later. Something about blue Christmas lights is very pleasing to my eye. I don't think I'd ever actually drape blue lights from the front porch, but I do like to look at them. I really like big blue bulbs in those fake candles in windows. Again,I don't think it's happening here, I'm pretty boring with my Christmas decorations, but when I see those blue lights in other yards I find it soothing and... just pleasant. You know, the stores are already stocking Christmas items, It's not even Halloween yet f …
