2007-10-19 12:17 WinSCP's "Network error: Software caused connection abort" Message is Driving Me Crazy!
WinSCP is by far and away the best SCP/SFTP client for Windows users, but the default settings don't use keepalive, so you get disconnected far too often. I like to leave the client open while I'm doing work, and this causes a serious problem with my workflow. Note: if you haven't switched to using SCP or SFTP to transfer files instead of regular insecure FTP, you should really do so. This messagebox needs to go away! To change this setting, you'll have to modify your saved connections in the Wi …

How To Get Information Of Different Web Host To Meet Your Hosting Need 8′month back the above question aroused in my mind, when I was planning for my blog Espreson.com, and this was tough job for me to find host of my choice. 2007-09-04 03:26 Hardware Convergence
With all the press furore surrounding the iPhone, I've been sorely tempted to give in and pick one up before we leave America at the end of the week. Especially now that there are already a couple of methods to unlock the phone and use it on a GSM network outside America. On the other hand, my rev.a macbook is an ongoing source of problems and I'm loathe to get embroiled in more rev.a apple hardware... On balance, it makes more sense to me to wait for evolution to iron out any little problems in …

2007-09-02 22:45 My Five Wishes for Leopard
We re now at the beginning of September, and if Apple sticks to their revised timeplan for Leopard, we re but a few weeks away from yet another round of manic blog updates, frantically written reviews and œoh, why hasn t Apple done this and that pieces. Since one of my favorite adages is œforewarned is forearmed , I have been mulling both the implications of upgrading and what I m likely to be taking the most advantage of but I ve also been anticipating some of the most likely issues. Althoug …

2007-09-02 00:22 Capistrano 2.1 Preview #1
I had intended to wait until Net::SSH v2 (and friends) were done before making another Capistrano release, but the list of pending tickets was growing and there is still a good-sized pile of work to be done on Net::SFTP v2 before it can be released. So, I sat down this weekend and worked through the tickets, and I m happy to present Capistrano 2.1 Preview Release #1. Grab it via RubyGems from the Rails beta gem repository: gem install -s http://gems.rubyonrails.com capistrano It will install as …

2007-08-24 20:50 Disk ARchive 2.3.5 (Default branch)
Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, CDs, ZIPs, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, strong encryption, proper saving and restoration of hard links and extended attributes, remote backup using pipes and external command (such as ssh), and rearrangement of the "slices" of an existing archive. 2007-08-14 14:08 Privacy and Encryption with PGP : Signing and Encrypting Email / Files
Preface Saturday night the Ubuntu Utah Team had a great presentation on Privacy and Encryption. One very important topic and another very interesting topic. With as much is going on these days to screw with our privacy ( NSA ) it isn't a bad idea to learn a little bit about encryption. Now, I know you may think that you aren't doing anything private so what is the point I'm not doing anything "private" either, but honestly if I really wanted to talk to the NSA I'd send my emails directly to them …

2007-08-14 01:03 vlad version 1.0.0 has been released!
Vlad the Deployer is pragmatic application deployment automation, without mercy. Much like Capistrano, but with 1/10th the complexity. Vlad integrates seamlessly with Rake, and uses familiar and standard tools like ssh and rsync. Impale your application on the heartless spike of the Deployer. FEATURES/PROBLEMS: Full deployment automation stack. Supports single server deployment with just 4 variables defined. Very few dependencies. All simple. Uses ssh with your ssh settings already in place. Use …

2007-08-11 16:53 How can I restart the Network Interfaces (eth0) on a Remote Linux Box
That's a queer Problem. I was sitting in via SSH on a Remote Box and I needed to restart the network interfaces in order to change the IP Adresses : sudo ifdown eth0 wouldn't work because it needs to be put up again (that means a sudo ifup eth0 command). But after ifdown is executed, my connection would be lost - logically. And the box would be in Nirvana So I asked in the Ubuntu Support Channel (#ubuntu) and they told me to use sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart - the perfect solution to my pr …

2007-08-11 12:10 Downtime
Well that wasn't fun, only marginally interesting. The blog might be down a little bit more in the near future, while I sort out scripts (and I may finally get around to the reverse-proxy stuff). Here's what happened: I wanted to do some playing around server-side, but discovered the server was still on Breezy Badger. When I attempted to upgrade (after a respectable amount of reading around for the best approach) it totally fell over, locking me out of ssh. It's a high-end virtual server, hosted …

2007-08-09 21:37 œThese aren t the network connections you re looking for
It seems that among other things, my Srv08 Beta 3 box seems to be practicing its Jedi mind tricks whenever I try to reconnect a broken RDP session to it: I guess it really doesn't want me to be able to get back on after a connectivity interruption. I certainly hope this bug doesn't make it out to RTM, as seamless RDP session reconnects are one of my favorite RDP features. After all, a user shouldn't really have to think about it when they switch between network connections, in my opinion. Progra …
