2007-10-15 00:05 Astronomers from NASA, Harvard and U of Colorado: "May be on Brink of Finding Habitable Second Earth …
"It could happen almost any time now. We now have the technological capability to identify Earth-like planets around the smallest stars." David Latham - Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics To date, Planet hunters have spotted more than 200 planets beyond our solar system, but the vast majority are hot, Jupiter-sized planets that would dwarf the Earth and are almost certainly lifeless. Astronomers may be on the brink of discovering a second Earth-like planet, a find that would add fresh i …

Dear Active Rain/Project Bloggers, First and foremost I stand up and applaud all of you for Blogging. 35% of the Realtor world still doesn't use websites so I am awed that you guys are out there using progressive technology and doing the right thing. I also respect each of you for putting yourselves out there to be judged. It's not easy to do that. I have been writing since I was a kid (books, plays, movies and scores of articles). My ego has been shattered into a 1000 pieces. I've used duct tap …

2007-10-12 02:48 No ˜we in the Howard team
Remember that little panic attack the Libs had post-APEC The grand plan, you'll recall, was that the populace would stare open-mouthed as the Man of Steel dominated the world stage, first among equals, single-handedly solving the problem of global warming. Overcome with national pride, his loyal subjects would vote him back into office for another three years. Of course it didn't quite turn out that way. All he got from the locals were surly complaints about the disruption and jokes about the wa …

2007-10-10 18:00 7 Women's Basketball Teams Qualified For The Beijing 2008 Olympics
The Recent conclusion of the 2007 Eurobasket Women's Basketball Tournament increased the number of qualified participants for the 2008 Olympic Women's basketball competition. China as the host country needed not to worry about qualifying as they have an automatic participation. The Eurobasket 2007 women's team of Russia also booked themselves a ticket to China as they won the competition by beating Spain's women's team. Although beaten Spain also qualified since the top 2 team finishers in this …

2007-10-10 09:07 Unbelievable paint job...
Interesting to see that, after a stunning 12-10 victory last weekend by the England rugby team, the Government of Australia has completely caved in and re-painted the world famous Sydney Opera House in honour of the fact that not only did England beat the Aussies in the final back in 2003 but then again repeated the feat in the 2007 quarters...I think it looks much better now...

2007-10-09 03:09 The power of simplicity
JFo - who used to work with me on the Windows Forms team before she fled moved do Australia, just posted a video on her blog about the One Laptop Per Child. What a really cool device. It doesn't seem to do too much, but that's not really the point. From the review, it looks like there was a lot of thought given to it. I remember growing up doing BASIC and LOGO programming so the stuff on there really resonates. I need to dig into it a bit - I assume it's all localized, and I'm not sure if it …

2007-10-07 21:21 The Other India
It was quite a week through India with a client team. Modern campuses of several Indian and Western outsourcing vendors. Spanking new planes of Jet and Kingfisher, two of India s new generation carriers. Shiny Toyota Innova minivans. A fusion meal at the Leela in Bangalore. The trip was punctuated by having Sunita Williams, the NASA astronaut on my flight back to the US. She had delighted India during her 2 week visit here. She graciously wrote and signed a note to my chess playing daughter Ri …

2007-10-05 23:14 Review Batman Annual 26
Batman Annual #26: Head of the Demon Peter Milligan & David Lopez CHRIS: This is apparently the œdefinitive NEW EARF origin of Ra s al Ghul, leading into this fall s œResurrection of Ra s al Ghul Bat-event. This has two strikes going against it from the outset: I don t think anyone wants another big Bat-Event, and Peter Milligan s got a pretty shaky history on big work-for-hire books (check out his runs on X-Men and Elektra if you don t believe me; better yet, don t). On the plus side, it s …

2007-10-01 22:48 Good Bye MS....hello yum yum games
There comes a time when you look at your world and you say, its time to move on. The memories are great and it was a good experience but something has changed. The Bug triage is not as interesting as it used to be, the conference calls have lost that special meaning, the company meeting just seems silly and the confidence and optimism for the company is just harder to fathom. I also feel that I know more than the many of the people who are senior to me as well which is a definite signal that …

2007-09-30 09:04 Interview with Lisa McKay
Lisa McKay's debut novel, my hands came away red, has impacted me on many levels and I encourage everyone to read it as soon as they can. A fellow Aussie, Lisa could hardly say no when I pestered her for an interview so enjoy reading about an Aussie girl made good in the States, in her career as a forensic psychologist and now, as a talented and compassionate author. Here are Lisa's thoughts:~ ON WRITING... Please share some of your writing/publishing journey with us I could write a book on that …
