2007-08-27 01:29 Cavs Still Have Deal For Bibby On Table
Cavs Still Have Deal For Bibby On Table August 26, 2007 - 9:27 am Plain Dealer - League sources have said that a possible deal for Sacramento Kings ' point guard Mike Bibby is still on the table for the Cavaliers, but it will take letting go of Drew Gooden to sweeten the pot. The Cavs could also make a one player for two deal with the New York Knicks or Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks have 16 players on their roster and the Mavericks have 17. Each team is in need of giving up two for one to reduce …

2007-08-17 21:26 Ticket Plans Event With Reggie Theus Meet-and-Greet, Tomorrow at ARCO
The Kings are having a 'select-a-seat' event from 11 am to 1 pm tomorrow where you can buy mini-ticket plans for the upcoming season. I'm told these plans will include options for the typically tough-to-get games like Phoenix, the Lakers, and Cleveland. (I've personally struck out the past two years on single-game tickets for all three of those teams.) They have 11-game (quarter season) and 22-game (half season) plans. The event's RSVP only. However, email ticket rep Shannon O'Neill ( soneill@ar …

Some miscellany re: USA basketball and more: Kurt from Forum Blue & Gold has a deep look at Team USA's critical problem : defense. For all the talk about the need for zone-busting shooters and unselfish players, the offense has been stellar. Kurt explains why (and how) the defense needs to improve for Beijing gold to come true. Another friend of the site, Steve of Clips Nation, analyzes the whole Jerry Colangelo 'three-year program' charade philosophy. Needless to say, things haven't changed muc …

Working our way from #21 through #32 in this installment. No players have worn #26, 28 or 29. 21 - Vlade Divac No contest, unless someone would like to pick up the Harold Pressley argument. I thought that Vlade was destined to be our 2nd greatest center in Sacramento history, as Brad Miller out scored, out rebounded and out assisted Divac over his first few years here. But Miller has fallen off greatly, and Divac provided the glue that held our best team in place. And he did it all while smoking …

In both Vietnam and Iraq, deliberate policies and strategies have bordered on genocide. In Vietnam, the forced dispossession of millions of people and the creation of free fire zones; In Iraq, an American-enforced embargo that ran through the 1990s like a medieval siege, and killed, according to the United Nations Children's fund, half a million children under the age of five. In both Vietnam and Iraq, banned weapons were used against civilians as deliberate experiments. Agent Orange changed the …

2007-08-08 02:30 John Pilger (Democracy Now!)
Mr al-Maliki took the helm of Iraq's democratically elected administration last year, raising hopes for reconciliation between the country s mix of majority Shia Arabs, minority Sunni Arabs and Kurds. So far his Government's performance has fallen far short of expectations. Sectarian rivalries between political parties remain strong, security is poor, and basic services such as water and power remain patchy at best. The Electricity Ministry has warned that Iraq's national power grid is on the br …

Until now, that is. Tim Hardaway, banished from the NBA All-Star Game for gay-bashing in a radio interview, said he spent several hours with an organization for gays (he declined to identify which) and has the go-ahead to seek a coaching or scouting job. 2007-08-02 14:22 Newspaper reports on NMSU Foundation controversy
The New Mexico State University Foundation s practice of keeping information about donors secret is under increased scrutiny today after the Las Cruces Sun-News published an article on the topic. Today s article by reporter Diana Alba is about the legislators who will ask the attorney general for a legal opinion on whether the foundation can keep its donor list secret. It s likely to be picked up by the Associated Press and run, in a shorter version, in other newspapers around the state. The Sun …

Via three cobbled sources, we know three of the Kings preseason games. Andrew Nicholson of the official Kings.com blog says the Kings will play Portland twice in preseason. The Kings will visit the Blazers on Oct. 19, and Sacramento will host the Blazers on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. at ARCO. Via the Seattle Post-Intelligencer 's Gary Washburn, we find out the Kings will host Seattle on Tuesday, October 9. That's likely to be the first preseason game. 2007-07-24 16:37 7-27 Are We Paying College Execs Too Much
ABy JAY MILLER Syndicated Columnist SANTA FE -- Are we paying our college administrators too much or our cabinet secretaries too little The question arose when Gov. Bill Richardson found it necessary to supplement the salaries of the top two officials in the Higher Education Department by about $100,000 apiece and the salary of the new head of the Health Department chief by $60,000. For most of us, a salary of $100,000 would be real nice. We wouldn't complain at all. But this is o …

2007-07-24 15:12 The Book on Mike Wilks
As it appears Mike Wilks is the likely choice to back up Mike Bibby, it was time for some research. Sadly, there's no blog titled 'I Heart Mike Wilks.' Terrible news, I know. But as Wilks spent the 2006-07 season with Seattle, I knew we could find someone with great insight on the player: Sonics.com writer Kevin Pelton. Pelton penned a great feature on Wilks back in April, one which I encourage you to read in its entirety. Yesterday, we looked singularly at offensive statistics, which tell us Wi …

2007-07-23 04:14 Breaking down the YouTube of Donaghy in Game 3: Questionable
In his column today Bill Simmons points to Game 3 of the Spurs-Suns series, and what was in his words "the most atrociously officiated game of the playoffs so far". A fan of Simmons (and the Suns, probably) broke down the game's most "atrocious" calls, and posted it to YouTube: Now, it's pretty unusual of me to defend the bad guy, but I don't think there is anything more to this than an upset Suns fan who still hasn't gotten over his team's lose. I don't have a preference for either the Suns …

2007-07-22 16:37 Here's Looking At You, John Hollinger (And Kenny Thomas)
Mikki Moore's 2007 screams 'fluke year,' something actually quantified by ESPN's John Hollinger. In fact, Mikki is the prime candidate for Hollinger's top fluke billing later this summer.
