2007-11-06 16:42  Technical Web 2.0 Startup Basics and Software Quality Improvements
A lot of people have great ideas for new web -platforms/-software but simply lack the knowledge about an engineering approach to software development. This article addresses those companies/startups (seen as software buyers->customers), as well as software developers. So please donīt get confused when iīm trying to bring examples for both of those groups. When you start a software project, you need to ensure your services are better in comparison to others. From a startup/customer point of view …

2007-10-15 13:27  Two by Two Biscuits
An elegant update to traditional animal crackers, the adorable Two by Two cookies from Artisan Biscuits are perfect for discerning toddlers and their parents everywhere. The charming shapes of the cookies and package illustrations are inspired by classic pairs from children's literature. Vanilla takes its duo from Edward Lear's poem, "The Owl and The Pussy Cat," and Toffee and Strawberry are based on two of Aesop's Fables, "The Hare and The Tortoise" and "The Lion and The Mouse," respectively. 2007-10-12 17:30  Shoe Shine
Don't think that patent shoes are for those with fetishisms. You have only got to go into your high street, and on shop floors you will find everything from courts to Mary-Janes, T-Bar shoes, knee highs boots as well as belts and bags. This follows patent shoes appearing in many Fall 2007 shows. A patent shoe can make an outfit pop. The shoes are an instant statement piece. Black, red and even nude seem to dominate the patent color palette, but don't be afraid to wear other colours, just stay aw …

Technology Would Help Detect Terrorists Before They Strike. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Are you a terrorist You re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can t, not without your help. But you re not helping. We made our yearly visit to the High Desert Museum and got to see a lot of the exhibits. It is into the winter so there was no œBirds of Prey show and we didn't take the time to visit the Native American's Exhibit The big show of the day was at the Desertarium. Lizards, snakes, tortoise, scorpions, and gila monster w ere out under the heat lamps. They had a short presentation and there was even an opportunity to pet the snake or submit a name for the two new gila monsters. The Birds of Prey ar …

2007-10-06 14:51  New Version of an old Story
hey ppl... something REALLY worth reading... TORTOISE AND HARE Once upon a time a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. They decided to settle the argument with a race. They agreed on a route and started off the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race. He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep. The tortoise plodding on overto …

Draco: You know, if Gene (Hunt) and Jeremy SOMEHOW swapped bodies, nobody would ever notice. Not much, anyway. Riona: Oh, dear, Gene and Jeremy swapping bodies. Gene would probably wallslam Richard a lot, demanding to know what the hell is going on and why he's jumped thirty years into the future. And Jeremy's body would be the best one for him to be in, really, because it would be the one in which his political incorrectness would be least shocking to twenty-first century people. 1: I pick up pieces of paper off the street and read them. They can be rain soaked, crumpled, dry, filthy or illegible. Discarded notes and random scribbles are my favourite. 2: I like showers so hot they resemble that famous scene from Psycho .3: The BBC News Sting, the Silent Hill video game theme, a cork pop, the opening tune from The Tomorrow People an old sci-fi series from the UK, the theme from Fraggle Rock and a woman screaming "Oh my god!" - these have all been my ringtone at one time o …

2007-09-22 15:24  kitten problems
We are not doing well with kittens. Spock (one-year-old silver tabby) is fine (probably -- see Isis, below). Citrus (12-week old orange tabby) was diagnosed with a previous spinal injury that left him gimpy and not reliable in the litterbox. Our vet adopted him from us and is rehabilitating him for placement in a home that can handle his special needs. (I love my vet!) Isis, Citrus's replacement, (10-week-old tortoise shell) tested positive for feline leukemia. I didn't realize how bad this is - …

2007-09-11 02:52  Mt. Rushmore - Crazy Horse
Our Bed and Breakfast provided an excellent location to visit the various sites around Custer, SD. Since both Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial had evening shows including a light show we decided to reach the memorials in the afternoon and spend time there until the night shows. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for a successful visit to either site. On our way to Mount Rushmore we drove through Custer State Park along Needles Highway. It was a slow drive with a narrow winding ro …

2007-09-02 18:56  Slow and Steady
Almost everyone knows the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. The moral of the fable is that slow and steady wins the race. This month we added a new member to our chapter. Looking back I realized the Diamonds have grown slow, but steady as well. We may never be a large chapter, but we are a tightknit group. Someone is always ready with an answer to a question or help to a problem. That is much more important than a large group. Slow and steady wins the publishing race as well. You can dash off …

2007-09-02 15:42  Noah's Ark
My second bite into the compilation apple was inspired by a visit to my good buddy, Delta Desmond's seaside abode. Des had recently become Dad to a little tiger named Ollie. He showed me how he likes to put on an animal song and, using a soft toy of that creature, teach Ollie all about the animal kingdom. Too cute. So this one's dedicated to Desi and all the recent parents, animal and music lovers of this world. To complete the educational smorgasboard, it's ordered alaphabetically by animal. Th …

2007-09-01 17:01  A Starting Point this Year
One of my least favorite stories growing up was the Tortoise and the Hare because the moral of the story "slow and steady wins the race" goes against my Tigger-like personality. Thus, when a colleague unknowingly challenged me with a simple question, it forced me to slow down and think about whether or not maybe slow and steady really does win the race. The question Well, a simple but very important one: "if only one thing 'stuck' with the teachers this year, what do you hope it to be" Honestly, …

2007-08-31 15:24  Not So Extinct
I was one of many who lamented last month's echo of a proclamation in January 2007 that the Baiji, or Yangtze River Dolphin, was 'most-likely extinct.' Well, it seems like I should have respected the principle of scientific uncertainty a little more than I did. ScienceBlogger Zooilogix has posted a report that a Chinese factory owner filmed the dolphin on August 19. My question is whether a private citizen's siting counts against the 50 year clock needed to announce 'definitive extinction.' I th …

I want to thank everyone for your suggestions on how to use my pantry items. There were a lot of great ideas that I had never thought of and I've already tried a few of them this week. I have to say though that after I posted, I was a little disgusted with myself...there are people starving and I have enough food in my pantry to last a few months. Had my finances not come into play, I probably would have kept adding to my pantry, never using up what I had already bought. Wasteful, wasteful, wast …

2007-08-30 18:10  Breakfast with Lemurs in Montagne D Ambre ( by Alexandra in Ambohitra, Madagascar )
Still jetlagged, we bounced up the dirt road to our hotel in steamy midday heat. We had splashed out on one of the few ˜3-star places in Madagascar s undeveloped tourist infrastructure, but weren t expecting miracles for the few US$ we had paid. The jetlag lifted as we pulled into a cottage garden in front of a stone manor house straight from France, with a giant Seychelles tortoise munching contentedly on the lettuces. ˜Aiii!! screamed our host, Marie-Jose, as she tried in vain to shove the t …
